I completely agree. One thing Apple did so well back in the day was its sleek, clean appearance, especially in all text and fonts. Bold fonts look chunky, amateur and cheap. Every upgrade seems to take us further from that beautiful aesthetic, and I hate that there is no way for us to personalise the new changes - my setting already has Bold turned off, but there's no changing it in the titles for the apps like Messages and Contacts.
I agree! Something changed with the font, font-size and contrast (especially on the enter pin screen). The design is definetely less readable, scannable and elegant.
Please bring back the styles which were before iOS 11!!!!
Your suggestion makes the fonts even bolder. I think what the people here, including me, want is a switch to toggle between the iOS10 (and earlier) appearance and the iOS11 ”boldness“. Also the digits on the new watchOS to enter the code are ugly bold compared to the sleek digits before.

Apple is not reading here for suggestions. Submit your feedback here:
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see from your post that you would like to change the font on your iPhone display to text that isn't as bold. I am happy to help with that!
On your iPhone, please go to Settings > Display & Brightness. There, you'll find both Text Size settings (small to large) and a switch that allows you to turn on or off "Bold Text".
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Have a great day!
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the reply, but that was not what I was talking about. I’m referring to the overall change in the appearance of the software apps. Big and bold headings on everything! I agree with mpecovnik — the previous design was much more elegant! The look of the new iOS is definitely a downgrade.
Totally agree. Understand motives for introducing bigger/bolder headlines, but you guys should have stayeaway from changing font in Calculator, Dialer and Calendar. My phone doesn’t feel like iPhone anymore.
Because you dared to say you will trash your iPhone? I was going to say- Because of the new bold font, my iPhone now looks more like Samsung. Don’t Samsung phones use these bold aesthetics? I think I should go and check their latest models.
To your point, I had posted the following comment and no one at Apple cared to comment or offer a solution:
"
I just upgraded to iOS11 and I am incredibly disappointed by the huge aesthetic dumming down in the typeface usage.
Apple used to be for designers and artists and you can count on a number of us that will just dump your phones. What is the point of overpaying a product, if the design value that it used to stand for is gone? Why spend 700 to 1K $ for a phone that now looks just like a Chinese $350 one? I do not see any reason.
I realize that culture and beauty perception are tragically on the way out, but I really hoped Apple would remain a bastion of design.
Your San Francisco font is deprived of any personality, it is clumsy and ugly and its thickness is visually offensive. I frown every time I switch it on!
If there is a way you can give us as option the earlier typeface, on request, even for a price, I’ll keep your iPhone, otherwise I’ll give it as charity and forget your brand.

Hello Community specialist,
Thanks for trying to solve the issue of such a lousy selection of font for the new IOs. I have been an Apple follower for more than 2 decades and this is the first time that I don't feel impressed with the designs and the font selection. Your solution doesn't work either. I have turned off the bold setting but it still looks ugly, ordinary and may I say... very windows-like! It is sad to see the turn Apple is taking at the moment and I honestly don't know where to look to see some resemblance of the innovative design. Please consider design is a very important aspect for your clientele, don't disregard it lightly.
Good wished for all Apple developers and designers. Get back what you had people, we want to see leadership here.
I totally agree with you. I hated it when I updated the os in one of my phones and kept my other phones not updated. Unfortunately overnight update overwrote it last night. 😒 Bold is not not on, by the way. A college fresher will do better UI design and value the realestate of the screen better.
I just had my 2nd warranty replacement on my iPhone. BIG ISSUE!!!
The new phone has the latest iOS and the clarity of text has vanished and considering I’m dyslexic what was a great reading tool is now next to useless. The font updates and the layout amplifies my visual disturbance issues, iPhones were once renowned for their clarity and ability to assist people like me.
My local Apple store offered the following solutions:
-try and get help here
-contact Apple Legal given they have stuffed me and I have a legally recognised disability
-another solution suggest by their genious that saw Apple delete my last post on this, then send me an email explaining why but without bothering to assist with the issues I have raised.
Dear Sarah
I don’t like the new font either. And it can’t be changed in settings. I also don’t like the new apps’ look. I think that you should go back to what was elegant.
EXACTLY what I mean, monique.
I completely agree with you about the contrast on the pin screen - it's so ugly.
I hate the new BOLD font on my iPhone with iOS 11!!! Is there any way to change it back to the previous style??
