Is there a way to hide the dock in iOS 11?
The capability is, of course, available in OS X.
Thanks.

First remove any items from the dock by holding on them for a few seconds and dragging them onto the screen.
Swipe as far right as you can until you get to the widgets page. Press the home button, & as the screen starts to slide left to the home page, swipe with your finger right to left. May take a few attempts, but when you get it right you'll notice the dock has gone on the home page.

Did you even bother reading through this entire post for your answers?
The answer is, once again, no it is NOT possible to manually hide the Dock.
The Dock has always been a visible and integral part of iOS, in this form, since iOS 7.
No way to change any of its behaviour.

The dock should hide when an App is open.
There is no way to hide it when at the home screen.

Thanks for the reply but not the answer I’m hoping to find.I was wanting to know if it’s possible to hide the dock at the bottom of the screen, the stripe that holds the few apps at the bottom of the homescreen and are always visible in whatever homescreen your on because it’s really annoying from my point of view.I know it’s a good way to have your most used or favourite apps always visible and easier to access but I was wanting to know if it is possible to get rid of it all together and just have another line of apps at the bottom of the page
I was responding to irisc77 above my post who had the dock stuck in the middle of the screen.
There is no way to hide the dock, and even if you remove all the icons, it will still be there, because its an integral part of the multitasking features now.

pressing the home button either activates siri or asks if you want to activate it if you have turned it off. So that doesnt really work? Has anyone used this successfully?
No one has used it successfully because there is no way to remove the dock. The dock has been on every iOS device since the first iPhone. There is no way to remove it.

The fact that it puts an app that I frequently use into the dock when the actual app itself is right above the dock on the homepage. 2 of them side by side. Not necessary. That’s what’s not to like. How about if I can customize MY Ipad to MY liking...
The dock has no way of knowing that the app its suggesting is right above it, and its entirely possible you can be on other home screens and not near the app in question, so how is having a quick access to the App a bad thing?
Anyway, you can turn that off by going into Settings->General->Multitasking & Dock->Show Suggested and Recent Apps, and turn it off. If will never again dare to suggest an app you may want to to use. It will remove the 3 right most apps since those are the one sit generates automatically.
I don't understand this hatred for the way the dock works. I find it extremely helpful to have an App I use at generally the same time, or with the same device automatically presented to me when I'm about to use it. But I guess i'm just that much less easily offended by things like that.
Reboot the iPad. Hold down the home and sleep / power buttons at the same time for 10 to 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on screen. Release the buttons and let it reboot.
The dock should have returned to the bottom of the screen.
No data will be lost by doing this.
If you don't use it, you're left with a hanging feature that you can't turn off. And no, none of the uses that you describe are any use to me.
thanks
Go ahead - customize it. Turn off the Suggested Apps option in Settings as Phil has recommended. Then you will only have the permanent apps that you have placed there.

I came to this discussion today because I just updated my iPad Air 2 to IOS 11 and would love to have a way to hide the dock. Sorry to find out there is no way.
You can send feedback to Apple here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/. This is a user to user forum and Apple is not here.
Hi. The dock on the Home screen has been around since iOS 9. It's unlikely to change any time soon.
And the new swipe up dock in apps is really quite handy for switching between apps.
You can suggest changes to Apple by posting at this link: Feedback - iPad - Apple.
I wish there was a way to disable the dock completely. Not just hide it, remove it. It didn’t bother me at first, but if you’re using an app that requires swiping from anywhere near the bottom of the screen, it’s easy to inadvertently bring up the dock. For example, in the Scrabble game app, your letter tiles are located across the bottom. Dragging letters to the board often brings up the dock, and if you continue to swipe upwards, the app minimizes. Very annoying.
