Notes app crashes with iOS 11 on iPad 10.5" 256gb 2017

Just bought 2 brand new 10.5" iPad Pro 256gb. One was updated to iOS 11 and the other is at 10.3.2. The Apple Notes app is crashing on the iPad with iOS 11 when either the Apple Pencil or a generic stylus is used to write. Using the keyboard in Notes works fine - just drawing is affected. Other note-taking apps such as Noteshelf work properly. The problem does not occur on the other (identical) iPad running iOS 10.3.2 - both the Apple Pencil and the generic stylus work properly without crashing.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with Notes crashing when a stylus or the Apple Pencil is used. Here are some troubleshooting steps I'd like to recommend.

First, let's force quit Notes: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then, restart your iPad: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once it comes back up, open Notes and test if the issue remains. If it does, please try the rest of the troubleshooting provided in this help article, including checking for updates (it may be some necessary security or stylus update causing this), and deleting the Notes app, restarting the iPad, and reinstalling Notes. Test.

If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

I have the exact same problem with iOS 11.0.2, I use notes app to work but since update it was a nightmare, I hope a soon update fix this

Hi,

I have just updated to 11.0.3, the issue is still unresolved.

I don't think it is palm detection related, it just happened to me in Apple Notes, without my palm on the screen.

Same here, update my ipad to ios 11.0.3 and note still crashing. I dont think it is palm related because sometimes i cant even open note app without app not responding. I hope they fix it soon

I’m experience the same thing on a 10.5” 2017, 64 GB, iOS 11.0.3. It appears to only happen in the quick notes mode and not in ”add sketch” mode. Restarts/restores don’t seem to affect it.

Same issue on same device. entering notes into Notes app with pencil, crashes. Repeated many times. Force quit and ipad restart didn’t help.

Interesting tip; turns out my Zoom settings have been 'off' the entire time and I still have the lag issue. Unfortunate.

1st gen iPad Pro 256gb. The problem is not with the iPad. It’s that Apple released a sub par version of the notes, filled with bugs. Hopefully they fix it.

Notes has been working perfectly since I reinstalled it. No glitches or crashes, and I use frequently during the day. I'll let y'all know if crashes again.

Save all your notes. Then try turning off iCloud on your iPad and try Notes again. If your problem goes away (and stays away) it will confirm what some of us have been saying, that it's a sync issue.
