Podcast app no longer plays next podcast. App stops playback when a podcast is finished.

iOS 11 app no longer plays the next podcast. Why was that removed? If i have episodes 5-10 and i start playback at episode 6 why does the app just stop playback when episode 6 is done and not automatically begin playing episode 7 and so on. This new behavior is junk. I've tried sorting the podcasts old to new and this would work in iOS version 10. The sorting now seems to have no affect on playback. I'm really HATING this new app. It seems now i have to add a podcast to the "up next" list, which is a royal pain. Did the developers even USE this app?! Try driving down the road with 10 episodes to listen to in a show and having to pull the phone out to start the next one. If there is a way to make it play continuously you've hid it very well. Yeah Yeah... add them to the up next.....It should be automatic. HATE IT! Also I now have a bunch of old podcasts that i've listened to years ago showing up as not played. What happened to "Mark as Played"?

I've been messing with this app a little more. To get continuous play sort of like iOS 10 you have to make a station and add podcasts to it. Library > Edit > New Station. This will give you options for play order, how many episodes you want to see and which individual podcasts you'd like on the station. This at least will give you continuous play without having to add each podcast to up next. It's still annoying that going into an individual podcast and starting playback on a particular podcast DOES NOT have auto play functionality like iOS 10 did. I guess I'll have to make a bunch of stations for certain shows that have guests broken into multiple shows so I can listen in order interruption.

Meant to type Hate this new app. I am also missing the timer. I listen while falling asleep and now wake up to shows playing and it drives me crazy.

I appreciate the attempt to help. I think the main concern has been missed :/. The main concern is the automatic/ continuous play is gone. The app no longer plays the next episode when the current one is finished. It simply stops. Ironically, the sleep option to turn off “when current episode ends” is still present. They’ve already applied that setting universally. :( we want it back to playing automatically.

Go to App Store and download "Overcast". Solves all the problems of this Apple update. I have had it for about two weeks now and am totally satisfied. Someone on this discussion recommended it and I have been totally pleased. Apple podcast player is just an empty icon on my phone for when they finally fix it.

I went through the hassle to sign on to this discussion group to voice my own angst....albeit these are 1st world problems here and not horrific relative to greater suffering in the world but....using this updated podcast app has become a huge hassle. The old app was great. Little dot next to ones that I had not listened to and then once played it moved to recently played. Archives could be kept and if i was driving or cleaning and had a series of podcast episodes to listen to I could set to play as next and it would. Now no matter what I do I cannot get any kind of playback groove going with this. Someone should fix this or allow a backward reset to a prior version.

Beyond pitiful. The developers on this project should be fired or given janitorial work to perform. Obviously, their belief is that: "If you can, you should." In this case, the 'can' is to ruin and overcomplicate an otherwise usable app, which wasn't anything great to start with.

Why would anyone want their podcasts to stop playing every few minutes? And then be required to take multiple steps on multiple screens to continue?!?

It is no wonder that more and more other sites are offering podcasts and apps. Apple continues to disappoint - that is the reason.

And noooooooo, I do not want to "just use siri" and repeat myself over and over again...

Same problem. Not convenient and definitely not an improvement from previous version. Fix it. I like Apple because they always improve and simplify not regress and complicate. Fix it
