Not within control center, that is only for 4th gen and 4K models. The app itself still works for older models

The Control Center widget only supports Apple TV 4th Generation and Apple TV 4K at this time. It will not connect to previous models of Apple TV.
Use and customize Control Center on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
You can still use the Apple TV remote App from the store for older models.

How's this possible if it supports only 4th gen apple TV?
Not possible. You either have a 4th generation Apple TV, or the remote widget is picking up an 4th gen Apple TV from a nearby neighbor.
The widget does not in any way work with Apple TV 3rd gen, 2nd gen, or First gen at all, on any device. And I've tried several.
However as said, you can continue to use the regular app from the App store for those models.
If you read the responses you would note that the older models are supported, via the app, just fine. It is only the widget that isn’t and as it’s based directly on the Siri Remote (which those models don’t support) there is no reason for it to.

Sorry if I not expressed myself properly. I was not asking a question, I was telling you the Apple TV remote inside the control center was working on the initial release of iOS 11. It’s a fact. It stopped working after the patches. I don’t have the app installed.
Nope. The Widget in Control Center never worked with earlier models. That was the main issue when iOS 11 was released. This has not changed. If it worked for you, then either you have a 4th Generation Apple TV or it was picking a nearby one from your neighbors. It's never worked with older Apple Tvs, and is specifically stated in the link I posted above:

Apple TV Remote: Control your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV (4th generation) with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Then you are mistaken, the control Center function only works for the 4th gen and 4K models as evidenced by the link.
Again, the widget is based on the new remote (which is hardware not supported on the older models). The 4th Gen doesn't support 4K either, but runs a completely different OS (TVOS) that isn't capable of running on those other models.
The 3rd Gen is also discontinued and the 2nd is considered obsolete
No, Apple does not read these forums. There are moderators who check that posts are following the terms and may respond every so often. So you can think what you want, but they will not be seeing this and rants would be in violation of those terms agreed to upon sign up.
No it didn’t, as already stated. The 3rd Gen is 5 year old hardware, not recent, and the widget is specific to the newer models.
This is a user forum, you are not addressing Apple. It is only the widget that isn’t supported on the older models, the app itself works just fine

Why are the pre-gen IV devices not supported? My 3rd gen Apple TV works perfectly fine, and there is no need for me to upgrade and waste money on a newer version. Why won’t you make all of your devices play nice together, Apple?
That is rediculous. It worked fine with my Apple TV 3rd gen when iOS 11 was released. Why would Apple intentionally remove support? I’m not happy at all with Apple right now. I’m considering canceling my iPhone X order. I expect Apple to support recent hardware.
Thanks, I should have expanded my message - YES I did read the full thread, and for the same reasons that newer AppleTV users find it useful to do something else and then be able to easily swipe control center to pause or stop something - I find it unhelpful that older models aren't supported. The app is ok - but its inconvenient - and its us previous users that have supported the product to get it to a place where it has continued to thrive (our purchases supported those newer models).
Sure I understand a v2 or v3 isn't capable of doing 4k etc, but I'm not convinced there is a protocol limitation that stops control center from having easy controls for us too (particularly when someone noticed an early beta did work).
Apple does sometimes look at these threads, particularly if lots of people are complaining (antennae gate springs to mind). So maybe you don't care, but I'd like them to know that it annoys me.
