ios 11 appletv remote stuck on searching
I can’t connect the new control center Appletv remote to my 3rd generation Appletv. All software is up to date on the Appletv and my iPhone 7.

Not within control center, that is only for 4th gen and 4K models. The app itself still works for older models

Same issue here!
I was able to connect to my old Apple TV using the initial version of iOS 11. Looks like the patches broke something.

Just another older AppleTv user who can’t understand why they can’t support older models.
I find it disappointing.
Except the 3rd Generation Apple Tv is not recent. It's been out for 5 years now, and was discontinued last year.
As said, you can continue to use the regular Remote App with it just fine and with the older models of Apple TV too.
The Widget in control center only works with 4th gen and 4K Apple TVs.
Hardly seems like a offense when there's a perfectly workable alternative which you have been using all along.
With that said, you can totally cancel your iPhone X pre-order. We have no vested interest in what device you choose to use, and as such, such threats are meaningless here.
Boo. Are there plans to support the 3rd Gen Apple TVs with the Control Center widget?
Apple has said nothing about that, so no way to know.
You can, however, still use the regular Remote App from the store with earlier models of Apple TV.
