Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

So, I’m using an iPhone X, and I finally narrowed down this issue.

It’s literally the app not the localization or anything else like that.

In short, Apple culture has screwed this up. When you open the weather app, and don’t force close it because Apple says we don’t have to, the widget stops updating.

So here’s what I did and it was an instant widget update and because of this I think this is the most stupid bug I’ve ever figured out.

The widget isn’t updated, I tap it and the app shows me what the real temp is. I go to multitask mode to like I’d switch apps. As soon as I do a long press to allow force closing, and force close the weather app, the widget immediately updates.

This is a horrible implementation and probably is the same reason my Dark Sky stopped updating it.

Now it’s time for Apple to hopefully read this entry and do something about it. Otherwise it’s a useless widget.

After a day of checking both devices not sure the update has made much difference, previously the iPad appeared slightly better at updating the Weather Widget, now it looks like it's the iPhone! - but all told they are still glitchy and the temp update can still take several minutes to appear.

Still get the impression it's time related with late evenings being better.

With respect to other Widgets updating, haven't had any issues yet, but they are all iOS supplied (ie. no third party).

I take it you updated over the phone itself, if you are going to try reinstalling via the Mac you could connect your phone but in Recovery Mode, iTunes will then give you the "Update" option - this still replaces the OS but doesn't replace your data (or remove Apps) so when finished you are good to go (if you connect normally you are only given "Restore" which then requires installing a "BackUp" (to import your previous settings) which then triggers re-downing all your Apps again (which can be very time consuming depending on internet speed/number of Apps).

Don't think there is anything else we can do.

I know, right?

Finally, I gave in and have tried to squash the bug with the big hammer: Last night I wiped the phone clean, set-up as new, and manually added each app — 100% backup free.

Twelve hours of working widget, so far. I’ll check in as time passes.

(Also, this process seems to have killed another iOS 11 bug that I otherwise could not exterminate. When I used 3D Touch on the native calendar to see upcoming appointments, a weeks-old appointment would appear first. Go figure. That problem is gone for the moment.)

This is beyond ridiculous...

Same here, been nearly three days now since the update and behaviour is as reported previously, Widget will update but takes anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes, just never know which it will be! - and it's the same for both devices.

I've given up now, and unless anyone else discovers some crazy fix will just ignore the Weather Widget until Apple decides to issue a fix.

24 hours after a complete wipe clean and restore as a new phone, the weather widget has failed to update.

When I called Apple Support about a very different 11.2 bug — the forced restart now no longer works — I asked about the weather widget. The tech looked in the computer and told me, “the engineers are working on it.”

The cynic in me says, “and the check is in the mail,” but we will see.

In my view, there is no excuse for Apple's failure to monitor its support communities. It is cheap, it is arrogant and it is costly. I had two keyboards and the motherboard replaced on my iMac for an issue I eventually solved myself by burrowing into the support community and learning the problem, bizarrely, was rectified by adding an extender cable between the keyboard and the Mac. Apple's "geniuses" and AppleCare folks were unaware of the solution that was on their own message board.

Hi all!

I've the same problem. Gone to an Apple Store and wrote to Apple. But still does not working and no answers.

Resetting locations&privacy properties it works for some hours.

I noticed that it seems a localization problem because I've a similar issue with "Destination" widget and Apple Maps app. I try to explain better.

1 - "Destination" widget often does not indicate me time to arrival for a certain destination (home, typically), only displays the destination (home, gym, work, meeting) but not the time to arrival;

2 - Opening Apple Maps, often the app does not locate me automatically and I have to tap on the "arrow" on the top. After doing this, also the widget "Destination" updates with time to arrival. Very annoying, because I don't receive alert when I have to leave for a destination set on the calendar for example!!!

Anyone noticed the same issue (Destination widget)?
