Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 11, null

Hello to all who are having problems with the Weather App not working or having it not automatically load your weather conditions, when you launch the Weather App. An error is displayed telling you that the data cannot be “ Loaded.”

I‘ve seen this problem on iPhone and iPad devices and is very easy to fix.

Enter.... <Settings>…<Privacy>…<Location Services>

Enable.... “Location Services” to ON !!!

...then...

Enter.... <Weather> (scroll down the screen)

Enable.... “Allow Location Access” to ALWAYS !!!

...then...

Exit out of settings and goto your main desktop.

REBOOT your iPhone or iPad... totally shutting it down (hold the side or top power button on your device for 6+ seconds... then slide the icon button to “Power Off”).

...NOTE... You MUST power down your device in order for this to work.

Power up your device (press the top or side power button). Give your device a full minute to fully boot and establish a Cell or Wifi lock, enabling the Locations protocol to sync to your location.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

So, I’m using an iPhone X, and I finally narrowed down this issue.

It’s literally the app not the localization or anything else like that.

In short, Apple culture has screwed this up. When you open the weather app, and don’t force close it because Apple says we don’t have to, the widget stops updating.

So here’s what I did and it was an instant widget update and because of this I think this is the most stupid bug I’ve ever figured out.

The widget isn’t updated, I tap it and the app shows me what the real temp is. I go to multitask mode to like I’d switch apps. As soon as I do a long press to allow force closing, and force close the weather app, the widget immediately updates.

This is a horrible implementation and probably is the same reason my Dark Sky stopped updating it.

Now it’s time for Apple to hopefully read this entry and do something about it. Otherwise it’s a useless widget.

I wasn’t going to comment yet, still holding my breath, but yes, it looks like 11.3 has sorted. So far the Widget appears to update immediately and shows the content same as App, for both X and Mini 2. You can now actually see the Widget “flicker” with in a second or two when first opening so you feel it’s actually trying to do something!

For anyone that still might not be seeing the same “improvement”, I did this update via iTunes because it was quite large at over 600Mb, and besides, I consider the iTunes method results in less issues overall generally anyhow.

Aria190 (few posts back) still had issues even following 11.3 update which was only sorted by making sure the Weather App's location services was either set to "While Using..." or "Always" (Settings/Privacy/LocationServices/Weather), I use the latter.

FWIW mines been working fine since 11.3 was released so assumed Apple had now resolved, in fact they have just released another update for screen repair issues (11.3.1) so if you haven't done so yet might be worth a go trying that one and see what happens.

The only other advice if you are still having the problem after following the above would be to try applying the update again but via iTunes (as a Restore), and then use your BackUp to bring back your settings. Failing that do same but setup as New instead of using a BackUp (it could be something in your settings might be corrupt and "New" would avoid that).

I know, right?

Finally, I gave in and have tried to squash the bug with the big hammer: Last night I wiped the phone clean, set-up as new, and manually added each app — 100% backup free.

Twelve hours of working widget, so far. I’ll check in as time passes.

(Also, this process seems to have killed another iOS 11 bug that I otherwise could not exterminate. When I used 3D Touch on the native calendar to see upcoming appointments, a weeks-old appointment would appear first. Go figure. That problem is gone for the moment.)

I would try changing Weather's Location Services back to "Always" and then Force Restart your device.

It's been common for some "strange" issues to remain following an update which a Restart might resolve, especially if the update was done on the device itself and not via iTunes which (for me) is always the preferred method.

Worth a try because Weather Widget is still working fine for both my X and Mini 2.

Thanks, delete and reinstall appears to have fixed issue for me as well. This issue is strange, only happened on iPhone X and not iPad Mini 2 and think it started with last update, which ironically I didn’t really need because didn’t have problem that was trying to resolve!

Just for others, my Weather Notification wasn’t completely none responsive, it sometimes updated but other times it just seemed “stuck” and would remain like that for hours. Removing Weather from Notification Centre and then add it back would force it to update but that didn’t last.
