Weather widget not working on ios 11

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 plus. Since ios 11, the weather widget doesnt update at all. The weather app is not working fine either, I changed the location settings to only when you open the app, I tried also 'always on' but then that little arrow icon appears all the time in the top bar, so I refused.

With the location switch on 'when use the app' the widget should update if I open the app, but It doesnt. Sometimes the app itself doesnt update location or weather conditions.

Am I the only one?!?!

I am having the same problem on my 8+

I've got my location services set to always and the widget just doesn't update. If I tap on it and it brings up the main weather screen that's accurate but the temp on the widget doesn't change unless I reboot.

Well, that "so-called fix" lasted all of 1/2 a day 😠 so decided to try a Restore, again will inform on how things go this time but from what others have fed back will not hold my breath.

Just to keep adding to others observations, I noticed the weather widget still "blinked" as though it was updating and the various hours/temp did change except the main headline temp and the "now" hour, those two remained "stuck". Also, spoke too soon regarding the iPad which also started showing this issue (partially anyhow), but after an hour or so it does resolve itself and show correct temps (ie. mirrors those on my iMac that is) so not quite as bad - what drew my attention to iPad weather not fully work was the lack of temp displayed top right in the News app sometimes, again this did resolve itself after a while.

The iPad behaviour started me thinking this is reminiscent of Apple server problems, but if others have not experienced the weather app freezing that would rule that idea out unless it's location based, so at the moment can only assume it's a bug - has anyone reported issue through https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/ yet?

what stage does these forum questions get escalated to Apple

It can be at any time the issue is considered unresolvable by the user, with respect to the Weather Widget that has now been proven I would say - you can submit this "escalation" in either of two ways, Feedback or Bug Reports.

Here are the feedback links again.

PS: I also see problems with the weather app. Sometimes it does not update. But it updates in about 10 seconds, so still much better that the widget. I also see my town listed twice (I guess one is my "current" location and the other is the stored location), with two different temperature readings.

PPS: I never in my life saw a working weather widget. Not on Android, Windows 8 (PC), or even a web page. By working I mean showing up to date data. Maybe it is against some natural laws... 😉

I would try changing Weather's Location Services back to "Always" and then Force Restart your device.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

It's been common for some "strange" issues to remain following an update which a Restart might resolve, especially if the update was done on the device itself and not via iTunes which (for me) is always the preferred method.

Worth a try because Weather Widget is still working fine for both my X and Mini 2.

This is not the case here (iOS 11.0/iPhone SE); if my weather app is set to "while using" it will refresh for the last known location when the weather app gets opened; however, the widget's displayed temperature on the home screen does not update. This behaviour also is unchanged when setting it to "always" use location -- the app's UX itself updates, but the homescreen display does not update (the time of day actually does seem to update: it shows the appropriate icon for time of day; however, the temperature does not update).
