So, my most anticipated feature of iOS is finally here... Screen Recording, native, right in iOS.
Only one problem! As soon as you upload the screen recording to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or even insert it into iMovie the audio disappears. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Have you found a fix?

I have a teacher that is still having this issue uploading to YouTube. I was able to recreate it as well.
What I found is that if we transfer the recording to a laptop (we used AirDrop) and then uploaded it to YouTube, the audio would not play when viewing on YouTube. When we upload the recording directly from an iPad to YouTube, the audio would play when viewing YouTube.
So it looks like uploading the iOS recording via the iPad, directly to YouTube does work for us. We are both running iOS 11.2.6.
The additional problem my teacher had is that her recordings are a little over 20 minutes. The YouTube app on the iPad limits you to 15 minutes of video or 128GB. However, uploading via a web browser does not have this limitation. So, we went to YouTube in the mobile safari app on the iPad and uploaded the video that way.
We did have to have our iPads request the YouTube desktop site before we could get full functionality.
Sound and video played as expected via YouTube after that.
I did read there may be a way to increase your 15 minute upload limit. I will try it an report back.

I fixed it by opening the file in Quicktime 7, show Movie Properties and deleting the empty track, then save.
Now Youtube only has one track to work with. To figure out which track to keep, extract the audio tracks and listen.
I have some additional information regarding uploading from an iPad.
When we upload the screen recording using the YouTube app, there is no audio.
When we upload the video from the camera roll (using the share arrow) and choose YouTube, the audio works.
We did enable our accounts for Longer Videos (allowing more than 15 min), but the video would still not upload. Using the YouTube app, the video would give a generic, "Error processing file" message. I suspect it has to do with file size. When uploading the long video from the camera roll to YouTube, it gives us a message that says the video cannot be longer than 15 minutes (even though we have Longer Videos enabled).

SWEET! Just dowloaded Splice by GoPro! Test was a success. Still, I hope Apple will fix this issue soon. I should be able to edit in iMovie and not need to use a third party app just to get my screen captures to work.
I used Splice and it worked for me. Edit with Splice instead of iMovie.
Yeah I have same issue.
It appears that the recorded video has two audio tracks.
First track has no audio while the second track does.
When importing to iMovie it defaults to the first track- so no audio. lol.
Playing in MPC-HC you can change to the second track and get the audio.
But no way to select second audio track in iMovie in iOS. Or is there??
This is fixed - I use it all the time and it works great - the iOS team took care of this in a release a few weeks ago. I think they combined the 2 audio tracks into one. Make sure your students turn their microphone on prior to recording.

I was still having this same issue a couple of months ago and now I no longer have that issue when loading video onto Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram. The issue was fixed with the latest Iphone IOS update. So just make sure you phone is the most up to date and you should have no issues.
Yeah. I have gotten so used to my workflow now that even if they do fix it I probably won’t know about it for a while. Haha.
Workflow = screen record on iPad Pro; drop recording in Splice by GoPro; export back to photos; edit in iMovie. It is inconvenien, but it works.
Maybe try downloading iOS 11.0.1
try using a third party video editor? I just downloaded Splice. Will see if it works. Get LumaFusion if you can afford it.
Ok. Just tested my theory and I was even more off than I originally thought.
I was thinking that maybe the mic channel was another audio layer so maybe if I recorded system sound I would hear that but not my voice. It is even weirder than that though... if weirder is a word...
So, I recorded me talking while playing Super Mario Run this morning. As soon as I launched Mario Run music (as in music from my library) started playin along with the audio from the game. I opened control center and stopped the music from playing but as soon as I went back to Mario Run the music would start again.
Finally I just went with it and tried recording all the audio anyway. When I play file back on my iPad all the audio is there. My voice, the music track and all the music and sound FX from Mario Run.
However, when I upload to YouTube... are you ready for this? ...the only audio it grabs is the FX from Mario Run. It does not even have the background music or the music track that started playing in the background. Test for screen recording on iPad Pro - YouTube
Oh. And I just updated to 11.0.2 so I will check and see if anything is different now but not getting my hopes up yet.
11.0.3 and still imovie doesnt import sound from screen recording. Surprising bug!
Oh. Had not even thought to try and put the video in an NLE. I will drop it into Premiere Pro and see if I can fix it there. Still, I hope Apple fixes this soon. I really want to record and upload tutorials to YouTube and I would like to do all my work natively on iPad/iOS.
Well, I am kinda hoping to capture, edit and deliver right on my iPad. I only have access to a PC at work as I do all my home computing on iPad Pro. Some of the work I do I will eventually get paid for so I cannot use work resources to create it or it becomes a conflict of interest according to HR. :/
