The old podcast app would play episodes in your preferred order (oldest to newest, etc) continuously without having to add each episode to the “Up Next” playlist. Is there a way to automatically play all episodes without having to add every episode manually?

I too am really frustrated with this change and came across your post when trying to find an answer.
The only workaround I have managed to find for this removed feature is to create a ‘station’ for the individual podcast in question. I had a couple of stations already setup when I updated to iOS 11 where I’d add podcasts of a similar theme e.g. Soccer or technology and realised that the station settings allow you to choose the playing orders (see screenshot). You can then choose to play oldest to newest and they continue onto the next episode. This is a workaround and not a real fix but hope it helps.

I have also had this issue with IOS 11. It is very frustrating to have to play each episode manually.
Apple has listened. Upgrade your Mac OS and iTunes to the latest available and you will discover that Podcasts once again will play one podcast after another as it used to.
It is a strange theology to software. Take existing software that worked, then break it, make it less user friendly, toss out usability, and put a gold star on it for task accomplished.
Yesterday, someone suggested Overcast. There is a free version and a paid upgrade (without the adverts). I downloaded the free version last night and it does play the sequential podcasts. But, you have to resubscribe to each of the podcasts to which you'd already subscribed on the Apple Podcast.
Just covering themselves with glory, is Apple.
This versions of the podcasts app is really bad.
I'm trying to like the app but i can't.
Not only it does not play continuously, as ALL the previous versions as the layout is really bad, really confusing.
It does not scratch the surface of the quality apple as used so far.
Apple please fix the podcast APP!!
I've been frustrated with the new podcast. Driving and listening to podcast and suddenly stops cuz it does not play the next episode. However, this page helped me out. Just be patient and it will all work out.

Yup. This podcast update isn't the best design. Perhaps its time to look at apps such as Overcast.
I remember when iTunes was a nice simple program. iPhoto? Did exactly what it needed to do. Now iTunes is annoying, 'Photos' was a downgrade and now so is the Podcast app. 😟
