iPhone 8 plus wireless charging not working

My iPhone 8+ won’t charge wirelessly.

Picked up my iPhone 8+ today and set it up in the Apple store. Attempted to charge it wirelessly in my 2017 Tacoma via Qi wireless charging and it would not charge. The Qi green and orange indicator lights started flashing meaning error not detecting wireless charging. I turned car on and off and place my wife’s brand new iPhone 8+ (also picked up today) and it charged wireslessly perfectly.

hen jumped into our second car a 2016 Camry that also had Qi wireless charging. Again my wife’s new iPhone 8+ charged perfectly and mine would not. The Qi Green and orange indicator lights are flashing again showing error.

I have not been able to do a hard reset as when I press down the wake button and the bottom volume button it tries to make an SOS emergency call.

Any suggestions? Did I get a bad new iPhone 8+

It's in warranty. Return it to the place of purchase. Within the first 14 days from the date of purchase, you can have it replaced with another new phone with no questions asked or get it repaired. Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple.

FIXED! I had this same issue and tried troubleshooting with both Toyota and Apple. Initiated a support chat with Apple and was escalated to a senior engineer after showing him my youtube video above. He ran diagnostics and said everything checked out OK with the phone. I originally reported this issue within an hour of buying my new phone and told the engineer that I would like to try a new phone. I've seen this identical issue reported on several other forums and the fix has been to swap phones every time. Went to the Apple Store today, switched out to another iPhone 8 plus and it works perfectly in the truck!! Not sure what the root cause is, but I'm sure happy that my phone works in the truck.

To perform a hard reset on an iPhone 8+, you need to do the following.

1) Press volume up

2) Press volume down

3) Hold Standby/Power button until you see the Apple logo

Very different from the older iPhones.

Have the identical issue with my iPhone 8 Plus and 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road. I’ve tried my phone in a 2017 model of the same truck and it exhibits the same behavior. Have tried reset, and phone does the same thing with or without a case.

Hi Oso,

I have an almost identical sounding issue with my iPhone X. What was the resolution with your 8? My phone charges on a pad, but in my '17 Tacoma both the lights flash...
