iOS 11 auto time zone problem

I travel internationally extensively for work. I have always had my iPhone Time Zone set to "Set Automatically." When I arrive at my destination and connect to the WiFi, the iPhone correctly set the time.

However, since iOS 11, now when I turn my phone to Airplane Mode when I go to bed, the time zone reverts to my home time zone. This caused me to miss an alarm that I set!!! Please fix this!!

This worked for me. I think everything was working fine while we travelled until I changed Facebook's location services to "while using the app" because Facebook was chewing up battery charge. Make sure you follow the path all the way to the setting as adviced by TheLastPagan: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone and turn this on. It is deep in iOS. I have two iPhones and only one had the issue with the only difference the Facebook location services so that's why I am suggesting this may have something to do with it. Regardless, if Setting Time Zone is off for any reason it won't update your time zone automatically.

Some people (like me) have to turn their phone off! Personel Electronic Devices are not allowed where I work. You either turn them off and leave them in a locker when you come into the building lobby or like I do, leave mine turned off in my car.

So it just happened again on my iPhone 8. I did the latest update just now. We will see if it corrects it. My command just switched from Blackberries to iPhone 6s a few weeks ago. This is not happening on the 6s. Is it a newer phone unique problem?

We must be neighbours.... i live in Banora Point and I have reported the exact same problem you mentioned. i was on to Apple last week for many hours over 2 days. they just wont admit there is a problem and try to find a problem with me and the way I use the products. Both iPhone 8 plus and iPad 2017 both have the same problem. I am now waiting for Apple to tell me that they have a fix and when it will be ready. i wont hold my breath on this one as it is not happening on older devices, just newer devices and us people that live on a time zone line. They just dont seem interested.

Hi Dean, we’re pretty close to being neighbours, I’m in Murwillumbah. The beta that installed on my phone yesterday (11.2.5 beta 2) seems to have fixed the issue on my iPhone for me. However, I was premature in calling it fixed on my Watch. I spent most of the day yesterday in town, away from my phone, and my watch was obviously getting its signal from a tower in NSW. Now that I’m back home (on the very edge of town) my Watch is again reverting to Queensland time (I have direct line of sight to Springbrook Plateau) when it unpairs from my phone.

Out of interest, which provider are you with? I have only noticed the problem since switching from Telstra to Optus a week ago (just pointing out that with Telstra my phone was getting a signal from a tower in NSW and now with Optus it’s getting its signal from Qld).

I’m actually sitting here waiting for Apple Support to call me back after my Chat yesterday was left unresolved (the support guy was going to speak to his supervisor and get back to me).
