I travel internationally extensively for work. I have always had my iPhone Time Zone set to "Set Automatically." When I arrive at my destination and connect to the WiFi, the iPhone correctly set the time.
However, since iOS 11, now when I turn my phone to Airplane Mode when I go to bed, the time zone reverts to my home time zone. This caused me to miss an alarm that I set!!! Please fix this!!

This worked for me. I think everything was working fine while we travelled until I changed Facebook's location services to "while using the app" because Facebook was chewing up battery charge. Make sure you follow the path all the way to the setting as adviced by TheLastPagan: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone and turn this on. It is deep in iOS. I have two iPhones and only one had the issue with the only difference the Facebook location services so that's why I am suggesting this may have something to do with it. Regardless, if Setting Time Zone is off for any reason it won't update your time zone automatically.
I have this same problem on an iphone 8 with 11.2. My problem is I live right on the border but all my work is on one time zone. I leave set automatic off. Without my knowlege it turns back on and switches to mountain time and then I'm an hour late. Very frustrating.
No .. it isnt i check this after I reset my ph.. an I do not reset often.. you gurus shld delve into this... i mean LITERALLY my phone will go from MANUAL set to Phoenix Time (AUTO SET OFF) to autotime on Cupertino... I live in Kingman AZ ARIZONA DOES NOT USE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ... so I keep with the Standard Phoenix time but AUTO SET HAS TO BE OFF... SO check for the gliche that is causing an iph to reset to autotime when its suppose to be off...
Try this.....turn off a) set time zone automatically, b) under Privacy....location services....system services....turn off “ setting time zone”...

The iOS 11.3.1 update fixed the bug on my personal iPhone 8. This never presented as an issue on my Army-issued iPhone 6s.
iOS 11.4.1> issue still present: auto is reset to ON when restarting the phone. iPhone SE here.
