iPhone 8 GPS problems

On both Google Maps and Apple Maps, the gps doesn't seem to keep up. The apps start up fine but once I start driving the GPS becomes erratic and loses me. Both navigation apps can't seem to locate me unless I re-start the app over and over again. I thought it was a buggy iPhone 8 so I took it back to Verizon (where I bought it) and it was swapped out for a new one, and the new one started acting the same way the moment I hit the road. I haven't used any icloud backups, I set up both phones as new iPhones each time I activated them. I also factory reset my day old iPhone twice before taking it to the store for replacement. The replacement (new) phone has the same issue. Help!

Just went out a few miles drive to test the replacement phone. Drove over a mile with the phone not on the magnetic mount and it worked perfectly on waze and apple maps. On the way back i put it on the magnetic mount and low and behold waze had red No GPS error and apple maps location was way off and wouldnt right itself. I dont think new phones are supposed to be bothered my magnets but thats seems to be the case for me. I know that some people on this thread have it happening when walking or on a non magnetic mount and i hope you find a solution but for others out there using these mounts, try taking it off. Im gonna buy a cradle mount, too much hassle to get phone replaced so User uploaded fileim taking the easy option.

Noticed the same issue this weekend and called Tech. They had nothing to offer except that "maybe there was maintenance going on with the satellites?" Seriously. Wife's 6S had no issues during the same period.

Was about to go return the phone yesterday and then everything was working fine (of course...). Now, this morning back to being all screwed up.

Apple had better have an answer for this ASAP or they're going to have a lot of angry people on Friday when the return window ends...

So after a week of tech support, uploading diagnostics and screenshots and now two phones, had the same problem each time.

Pretty sure I figured out it's a hardware issue and my 2nd phone seems to be working as of now.

When I offered to help explain the problem to Apple, after hours of my own time, Customer Relations offered me a hat and some stickers. I say to all of you the same thing I said to them, good luck. Hope it works out for everyone.

Do you use an magnetic mount in your car?

Interesting thought, but I for one don't - my iPhone 8 Plus is in the same claw-style holder my iPhone 6 was.

Magnets shouldn't affect GPS accuracy anyway - compass *maybe*, but before the current holder, I used very strong magnets to hold my iPhone 6 in place and never had an issue.

The problem is also not restricted to in-car use for me.

I am having the same problem with my 8 plus. I are using a clip mount so there are no magnets involved. I’ve tried all the resetting etc to no avail. But I also get the impression that my cellular connection is not as strong as it should be. Though I don’t use it, is the wireless charging equipment in the phone negatively effecting reception for them both? Has anyone got any more feedback? Have replacement phones been better?

One thing though I didn’t notice the problem until after the first update 11.01. or is that just my imagination? My hope is that it is a software problem rather than a hardware one.

Fed up with Apple’s response to this. Been dealing with them for over a month, escalated to Executive Relations a week ago and have been told in no uncertain terms:

They are aware of the problem.

They have no idea what is causing it.

They have no timeline for solving it.

That’s direct from the horses mouth this afternoon. I was politely told to go pound sand or return my phone (8 plus) and leave them alone. Hands down, the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had with any product ever. Figuring out my next steps now since Apple has indicated they will do absolutely nothing. I was literally told, “the engineers say to just keep up with the software updates if you choose not to return your phone.”

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the landscape mode tonight when I drive home to see if I have any luck. I did contact apple again, sent them some pics of what I see on the map app when it's happening, and they said they were opening a case with engineering and that they should have a response by Friday. I'll let everyone know here if I get any updates.

OK so I just got back from my third visit to th Apple shop. Just so happened I was also sitting opposite a guy with an iPhone X with the exact same problem.

They wouldn’t swap my phone over again (that’d make it my fourth phone) and suggested I take it back to where I got it from, Telstra, for a full refund.

I guess that ends my decade of iPhone use. So, Samsung or Google?

And there was me thinking it was just me... :/

iPhone 8... Frequent rotating maps, jumping to the wrong route and problems finding location initially, plus the radius on Google Maps is greater than that on my ipad, which doesn’t have GPS (admittedly inside, but...). All my settings are correct (WiFi and BT) and it’s in the same position as I used a Motorola G4 and an 7 with no GPS issues.

Come from a Note 5, which was notorious for poor GPS, and was hoping for but not noticed any improvement sadly.

Just wanted to add my statistic.

Thanks
