iOS 11 on iPad Pro 9.7 very slow

I got the iPad Pro 9.7 128GB for its speed and performance.

I got this device for about 60k and now on iOS 11 it feels like im using iOS 10 on iPhone 5.

it lags a lot. all the animations have a stutter. And everything takes forever to load. It’s not smooth. It is visually depressing to see a new device perform this way. Please find a way to solve this. And also please could someone else confirm if their device is performing in a similar way. I have tried hard resetting and also even restored to get the same exact results. Please help.

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 11, null

Other things to look at.

In Settings app, General settings panel, turn OFF Background App Refresh.

In Settings app, under General settings, Reset panel, at the right bottom of the list, Reset All Settings.

Also, in general, if you want a faster IDevice, on all of my iDevices, I turn off most of the iOS motion graphics eye candy, by simply turning ON Reduce Motion in Settings app, General, Accessibilty settings.

Make sure you aren't running scads and scads of background apps in the iOS 11 Control Panel/App Switcher.

If you are, you need to quit the bulk of these background running apps by tap and hold a finger on an app window in the switcher and slide your finger upwards to quit an app. You should be able to use more than one finger to quit more than one app simultaneously.

Also, make sure you don’t have scads and scads of active website tabs running in the web browser.

If you do, greatly reduce the amount of active website tabs your web browser.

Have any of you tried a hard reset of your iPhone 6/6S by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

How much free data storage space is left on your iPhone?

iDevices need to maintain, at least, 3 GBs, OR GREATER, of free data storage space.

In Settings app, General settings panel, turn OFF Background App Refresh for any apps you feel do not need constant data updating/Internet updating in the background when not using the an app OR turn OFF Background App Refresh entirely/globally for the entire device.

In Settings app, under General settings, Reset panel, at the right bottom of the list, Reset All Settings.

In Settings app (NOT from the iOS Control Panel) turn OFF Bluetooth when not using any Bluetooth devices.

I have the large iPad Pro and despite its power, I always optimize my iPads for optimum speed.

This means I turn off Bluetooth when not using it.

I turn off all of the motion graphics eye candy by turning ON reduced motion in the accessibility settings

Turn OFF Background App Refresh.

Keep number of background apps to a minimum.

Manually fetch my mail instead of setting an automatic fetch time interval.

All of these thing may help with your iPad issues.

Since iOS 11 is pretty new, you may want to send feedback to Apple about your 9.7 iPad Pro issues.

If it were totally an issue with the iOS itself, then everyone would be having a problem. I have an iPad Pro 10.5, it’s what I’m using right now in these discussions, and I updated it to iOS 11 on day one, and it has NEVER given me a lick of trouble, never even blipped at anything that I have thrown at it, and runs circles around my iPad Mini 4 that I have for work that is still running iOS 10.3.3. Sounds like something didn’t install properly when you did your update and there is something else going on. I see this every time Apple does a major update like this. Every time, there are groups complaining that this is the worst thing they could have done was updating their devices, it happens, it’s not full proof, it doesn’t just happen with Apple, it happens with everything. Getting upset and trash talking people or going off on the companies isn’t going to solve anything. You can simply let people know that what they suggested you try to correct the problem didn’t work and maybe there is something else that someone can suggest to try. I would suggest putting your iPad in recovery mode and letting iTunes try to install the OS again. Maybe there is something that just didn’t go right during the OTA update.

I was hesitant to take this step... and I can see why now. Other previously fixed glitches are now prevalent, but I can say that clearing all settings did improve performance on my gen 1 iPad Pro. All of the new interface changes and elimination of amazingly effective gestures still slows my productivity to a crawl, but at least general lag has improved dramatically.

I will also say that your common suggestion of removing ‘eye candy’ did not help in the slightest... I tried that first.

But thanks for this piece of advice. Worked on iPad Pro. 👍-1F3FB;

I'll ask you same thing I asked the previous user, who, also, has not responded, what have you tried to improve your 9.7 inch screen iPad Pro’s performance?

Hey!,

Just trying to get your device back to a normal performance level.

Some things may have changed in iOS 11.

You don't use Wifi? or cellular connection to the Internet?

Are you using a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPad?

What apps need constant Bluetooth connection?

Just try turning off Bluetooth, temporarily to see if your iPad's performance improves or not.

Turn off Background App Refresh.

You don't really need apps constantly refreshing in the background when you aren't using them.

So, we're up to three users reporting slowdowns on iPad Pros and already the Apple slowing down conspiracy “myth” is already being the excuse for iDevice slowdowns?

Really?...

If both of you latest Posters have to, backup your iPad Pros to either iCloud or the latest iTunes on a computer and perform a complete erase and restore as new.

If your iPad Pros are working better as new devices, try restoring your backup next.

If your iPad Pros slow down again, then your either of both some apps or data are corrupted and all of you would need to find the source of the data corruption on your own, as there is no other way to troubleshoot a data corruption issue.

Good Luck to ALL of You !

No one else is reporting 9.7 inch iPad Pro slowdowns with iOS 11.

3 users isn't all the 9.7 inch iPad Pro using community.

I think you have data coruptiion issue.

Do another backup.

Then do another complete erase and restore as new.

Report how your iPad is running as a new iPad with NOTHING else on it!

If it is running fine when you report back, try restoring your backup, once again and if the slowness returns, you, also, have some data corruption somewhere causing the issues.

Another thing I forgot to mention, make sure you try NOT using iCloud for anything if iCloud is something yoy always have up and active on your iPad.

Good Luck to You, once again!

How much free data storage space is left on your iPad Pro?

Do have scads of apps always running in the background.

Any of these apps that need web access to stay current in the background can slowdown your iPad and reduce battery life.

Reduce the number of background running apps and in the iOS Settings app, turn Off Background App Refresh.

Do you use iCloud? If not, if it is active, turn iCloud OFF.

In the Settings app, try setting your iOS Mail app to fetch mail less often or set your iOS Mail app to manually fetch mail only when you open the iOS Mail app.

Good Luck!

Have you tried any or all of my tips in that link?

A recent Poster in another 1st gen iPad Air post, posted he solved his 1st gen iPad Air performance issues by simply Reseting All Settings in the iOS Settings App, General, in the right hand column under the Reset panel.

About another handful of users followed this Poster’s advice and all of them reported improved performance of their 1st gen iPad Air models.

You’re a little late with your snide comment as I posted my last comment 10 days, ago.
