iOS 11 on iPad Pro 9.7 very slow

I got the iPad Pro 9.7 128GB for its speed and performance.

I got this device for about 60k and now on iOS 11 it feels like im using iOS 10 on iPhone 5.

it lags a lot. all the animations have a stutter. And everything takes forever to load. It’s not smooth. It is visually depressing to see a new device perform this way. Please find a way to solve this. And also please could someone else confirm if their device is performing in a similar way. I have tried hard resetting and also even restored to get the same exact results. Please help.

Other things to look at.

In Settings app, General settings panel, turn OFF Background App Refresh.

In Settings app, under General settings, Reset panel, at the right bottom of the list, Reset All Settings.

Also, in general, if you want a faster IDevice, on all of my iDevices, I turn off most of the iOS motion graphics eye candy, by simply turning ON Reduce Motion in Settings app, General, Accessibilty settings.

Make sure you aren't running scads and scads of background apps in the iOS 11 Control Panel/App Switcher.

If you are, you need to quit the bulk of these background running apps by tap and hold a finger on an app window in the switcher and slide your finger upwards to quit an app. You should be able to use more than one finger to quit more than one app simultaneously.

Also, make sure you don’t have scads and scads of active website tabs running in the web browser.

If you do, greatly reduce the amount of active website tabs your web browser.

Deleting apps, other than to increase needed storage space, doesn't do anything.

Did you read my post above and implement everything I posted?

Did you check how many apps you have running in the iOS 11 app switcher/control center and quit many of them?

Do you leave a lot of website tabs open in your web browser and close out many of them?

In Settings, General, did you TURN ON reduced motion to minimise all of the motion graphics eye candy?

Did you try resetting ALL iPad settings?

If you choose, you can try out other tips in my posting here.

Ya know,

The reason I haven't been seeing or noticing any animation lag?

I use reduce motion to minimise all of the iOS graphics motion eye candy.

I have been doing this with ALL of my iPads since this feature was introduced in iOS 7.

The animations just slow processes down.

It’s eye candy that isn’t necessary.

My iPads, yes even my iPad Pro, respond much faster with these motion graphics reduced or simply turned off.

If you are using the Apple Pencil, then go into Settings app and turn off Wifi while using the Pencil.

You have to go into the Settings app to turn on/off Wifi and Bluetooth as there still seems to be a bug with the Wifi/Bluetooth ON/OFF buttons in the iOS Control Panel.

Both Bluetooth AND Wifi are in the same frequency ranges, so it's better NOT to use Bluetooth while Wifi reception is active in your iDevice.

Also, when using the Apple Pencil in iOS 11, if you are experiencing drawing issues with the Pencil, go into the the Settings app under General, Accessibility, Zoom and turn OFF the zooming feature.

After you are done using the Apple Pencil, you can turn OFF Bluetooth and turn back ON Wifi and the zooming feature.

Good Luck to You!

Yeah,

No one, but you, so far, is reporting iOS 11 slowing down 9.7 inch iPad Pro models.

Someone else in these forums reported their iPad Air 2 was slowed down by iOS 11, too, but, again, that person was just another lone poster.

No other iPad Air 2 users are reporting here with iOS 11 slowdowns.

Is your iPad Pro running slow on apps that don't necessarily need Internet connected access?

Have you just tried turning off Wifi, temporarily to see if your iPad picks up on performance?

Just to rule out a MODEM/router issue.

Although I have an iPhone SE that’s has a slower processor A9. The iPad Pro 9.7 has a powerful A9X and my iPhone has all of that on and this not slow. BT and WiFi should not be slowing this down. I’m thinking this is a software problem. I also have a iPad mini 2 that’s running iOS 11 and it’s slow using safari and even going the the home screen. It is annoying having a iPad or iPhone slow and it’s usually the software.

To all here,

For now, what about just turning ON Reduce Motion and see how things fare with minimizing all of the iOS graphics motion animations “eye candy”.

The animations just make the action you are trying to do, in actuality, SLOWER because it is an animation.

See if turning ON Reduce Motion improves the speed/performance of your iPad Pro.

I use a large screen iPad Pro and to maximise my iPad Pro's performance turning ON Reduce Motion is only one of the things I do to get my iPad Pro to respond as fast as possible.

Maybe all of you here should check out my list of iPad performance tips to see if there is anything more you can do to eek out better performance of your 9.7 iPad Pro models.

Slow iPad on iOS 9, 10 or 11!

I agree to this.

i was using an ipad mini gen 2 with the previous ios and my games were very smooth.

my mom bought an ipad pro 9.7 last year. I noticed her ipad lagged horribly despite fixing all the tips given out by different articles about how to speed up your ipad (clear cache, motion edit, turn off sir/spotlight, remove background app refresh, etc etc).

One week ago, I bought a 10.5 inch ipad pro, 256gb. It was initially with ios 10. I upgraded to ios 11 and was so frustrated. all my programs which ran smoothly in ipad mini 2, lagged. I barely have 10gb used up...Even safari is lagging. Pinching and dragging is crazy. Even the rotate lock is going crazy. I am seriously angry since they said its not the hardware issue. If I plan on replacing my ipad for a new one, I have to pay a huge amount for a restocking fee. What kind of money-grabbing plan is this? Kindly fix your ios. I dont need lagging features. Buying this ipad pro with an ios 11 upgrade is a rip-off!
