Helicon Focus software

Is Helicon Focus compatible with the Photos software using Yosemite? I'm asking for my 81 year old brother who bought it and found that it doesn't work with Photos. It did work with iPhoto on Mountain Lion though. His new drive has system 10.10.5 on it.

Thank you.

Photos on Yosemite does not support photo editing extensions, and so you cannot call external editors from Photos on Yosemite. Your brother would have to upgrade to El Capitan at least to be able to use external editors with Photos.

Wow, neither of us had realized that! Thank you, Leonie. I will inform him of this.

Probably not but that really is a question for Helicon Focus support - exactly how is it used with iPhoto and exactly how does it not work with Photos? In general being two years behind on software is going to be an issue - iPhoto 9.6.1 will work on Yosemite so they can continue to use the same way they alway have if if they are up to date with iPhoto and if they get up to date with Sierra (High Sierra starting tomorrow) they can use any external editor (no idea what Helicon Focus is or does) as an external editor (for Sierra they need the External Editors for Photos extension from the App Store - that capability is included in Photos for High Sierra according to the preview - macOS High Sierra - Apple )

Correct - if they own any version of iPhoto '11 they can install iPhoto 9.6.1 form the App store - if they are not up to date with iPhoto they can not update anymore which is why I specifically said

iPhoto 9.6.1 will work on Yosemite so they can continue to use the same way they alway have if if they are up to date with iPhoto

And no OS ever included iPhoto - it was always a separate installation and purchase (except with a new computer when it cam installed) - and again if they own any version of iPhoto '11 they can install it from the App store even on a new system that did not come with iPhoto

I have no idea if you can share your copy of iPhoto 9.6.1 or not - ask inthe iPhoto for Mac forum and someone there probably can tell you

And again the best solution may be to just upgrade to High Sierra tomorrow since Old Toad's information says that Helicon works on Sierra - no one will know about High Sierra until it is available but hopefully it will still work

LN, iPhoto 9.6.1 is no longer available for download anywhere and is no longer supported by apple.

An apple store sold him a new hard drive and installed Yosemite on it. And it didn't come with iPhoto. 😟

I have iPhoto on my Yosemite but I downloaded it 3 years ago from the APP store. Do you know if I am able somehow to send him a copy of my iPhoto without any of my pictures? (without the library?)

LN, yes he did have iPhoto on his old hard drive but that was failing and taken out of his computer. The new drive with Yosemite doesn't have iPhoto on it. His old drive was over 10 years old and back then, iPhoto came with the older software. So he didn't purchase it from the App store. He did check his purchases from the APP store and iPhoto was not there.

I trashed my iPhoto after saving it on my external drive and am downloading it all over again from the App store. I will then try to send it via MAILBIGFILE to my brother with the hopes he can download it and use it. All he needs is iPhoto for Helicon Focus to work again.

I sure hope this works. With my slow internet connection it's taking over an hour to download and will take many times that to upload onto MAILBIGFILE.

Thanks for your response.
