Hello, Rjensen31.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I understand that after updating to iOS 11 your Camera App isn't working. I may be able to help with this. Do you have another app you could try with your camera like FaceTime? This will help narrow down things. I would restart your iPhone if you haven't already done so. Make sure to have a current backup just to be safe. Here's a link just in case: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once your data is safe, I would next use this article as a reference and reinstall iOS: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
    • On an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery-mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery-mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery-mode screen.

  4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.

  5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
Step 4 is the most important step as this is the part where you want to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. After this is done test your Camera App and see if the issues persist.

Let know me if this helps.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Before upgrade to iPhone 11, My iPhone 6 rear camera worked perfectly. When iOS 11 came out, i waited, thought iOS 11.1 should be stable enough to upgrade, how wrong! After upgrade to iOS 11.1, the screen looks very dark especially under day lights, pictures severely under exposed. Recovery does not work. This upgrade render the camera useless.

To keep my faith in Apple’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction, I hope some engineers at Apple is working on a fix of this issue for iPhone 6 users.

Thanks

Experiencing the same problem/issue as everyone else. Problems with the camera didn't occur immediately after updating but more likely after a month.

Symptoms - black screen after opening OEM camera app (front camera works), flashlight no longer functions. Tried reset, factory restore, etc., no luck. Strangely, the camera DOES work with one third-party camera application (Camera +) but the photos taken with that app do NOT appear in the photostream. I can only view/open photos taken with Camera + within the application itself.

After no luck resolving with an online Apple rep, I have an appointment to bring to an Apple store on Monday, 1/8 and will provide an update.
