iOS 11 Lock screen bug

After updating to iOS 11, I have come across a problem where my lock screen will mess up. It won't display the time or date anymore or any notifications. Once this starts happening, more glitches begin to happen such as swiping through my apps lags or freezes, switching apps get stuck, the home button lags, and then after a while the screen becomes unresponsive and I have to restart the phone (using my assistive touch or the home and power button).

I updated my phone 3 days ago (before posting this) and this has already happened 3 times.

Does anyone know why this may be happening or how to stop it??

I believe I found a workaround solution to this bug (and yes I have tried the recommended “fixes” but it would still happen after a few hours).

Workaround Solution: Clear out all notifications. In the lock screen or notifications view press and hold the little x which will give you the option to clear all of the notifications for that day.

I did this 4 days ago and I have had no issues with my lock screen or notifications screen as of yet. It seems that’s iOS can’t handle a certain amount of notifications (I must have closed out over 200+ notifications). Starting with today I’m only leaving notifications for the current day and the day before (clearing out any older notifications).

Hope this helps you guys and also hoping for iOS 11.3 to have a fix for this.

I'm in the same situation: just switched from Android to iphone X three days ago. And I'm keep having the same issue and didn't know why. I tried restart the phone, it looks good for a while, then same issue happened again. I tried to reset all settings, it works. But after I unchecked some apps to stop refreshing at the background, same issue happened again. I saw someone says unchecked the setting of "touch to wake". I tried that, the issue didn't happen from last night.

It looks like something triggers the issue, but the solution is not unique...

It is disappointing to have a $1k phone with this kind of issue. I almost decided to returned it because at first it looks like freezing and the issue is so miserable. After many times trying, at least I know the face ID can unlock the phone .

I have the same exact problem too. I think the effects are in different ways like below:

1) Clock on lock screen disappears along with manual entry of password, Lock, Torch and Camera symbols. All you can see is the a blank screen with carrier name (left corner) and battery & network signal strength (right corner).

2) No notifications can be seen while you drag the screen from the top left (IPhone X) when unlocked.

3) No notifications can been see irrespective of Notifications setting when locked.

Unfortunately I cannot attach pics as the max size limit to upload here is 2MB only.

I know many people have the same, how can we resolve this issue as it is so frustrating to not see all the above mentioned items.

Well, the only way I can see right now is to reboot your phone that's all. Overtime this happens to me I restart and It gets back to normal.

I guess this is the way until a bug fix is released by apple. It would be great if apple support communicates why this occurs, like are we triggering it ? does it behave only when we use certain functionality? let's just wait for it until apple answer those questions.

Hope this info helps you folks...

I was having this problem on my older iPhone 6S on iOS 10.3.2. When I bought an iPhone 8 plus thinking it was an isolated problem, after using a back up, the problems Contributed on the iPhone 8 plus. I tried restoring it and not use a back up and the problem persisted. I took it to apple to wipe the phone clean and start it up again and that phone bricked in the process where they had to give me a replacement. Now the replacement is doing the same thing and i didn’t restore from a back up. I had to restart the phone 3 times back to back to stabilize the phone but at some point in the day, it would come back and I would restart again. Other issues is lock screen widgets will not load at times, sometimes I get a data connection problem, transition from app to home screen is laggy and hesitant, widgets and notifications become jumbled, widgets in the lock screen disappear when scrolling, and then flicker and reappear. Quite annoying. Right now I am deleting apps and removing some widgets to weed out the problem but so far no luck. Such expensive devices should be working top notch. I am strongly thinking to switch from an apple device for a while until Apple fixes their quality problem.

Same issue here. iPhone 7 Plus. Upgraded to the latest iOS (11.03). Now I need to reset it 10 times a day. Turned off Apple Pay. What I’ve noticed is that if I hit the power button to lock my screen, the phone goes into a deep-freeze.

If I locked the screen and try to revive it seconds later, IMPOSSIBLE. I have to reset it. If i don’t lock it physically and let it auto-lock on its own, it doesn’t become unresponsive.

But I’ve now missed SO MANY pictures because I pull out my phone, swipe it and... Nothing. Black screen. Click screen. Nothing. Click home button. Haptic response. But black screen stays. Aaaaargh Apple, hard reset once again.

Not cool and not funny, Apple!!!

I had this problem too on my iPhone 6, I would hard restart it and it would go away for several days at a time. Then my phone gave out yesterday. Went and got the new iPhone 8, took me 40 mins at the store because they had to run all the updates on the phone. Since about a hour after i got it, it has been doing it every time I get a text message. I hard restart goes away, then next message its back. Annoying.
