4K but no hdr through receiver

I have a Yamaha receiver (rx-v679) which passes through HDR 4K content to my TV from my LG 4K Blu-ray player just fine. But with the Apple TV I can only get 4K without HDR. Anyone seeing other devices that will work through a receiver but not the Apple TV?

Plugged directly into the TV the AppleTV does push through the HDR content however.

Check out this post, turns out there's a 4K menu accessed from the AVR front panel.

I had problems with my Sony XBR and Yamaha receiver, but I finally got things working. (Besides all the other variables, these HDMI cable issues are a nightmare. I have no idea how, from looking at a cable, what version of HDMI it supports).

Anyways, here is a link to my notes on getting HDR working through my Yamaha receiver to my Sony XBR TV. Maybe they will help.

Also, see others' notes on changing Yamaha's settings. I did that too. (Need to add that to my blog entry)

Thanks, Loki, good of you to write this up for others struggling!

However, I have no problems with running the Apple TV straight into my Samsung TV, works perfectly with 4k 60 Hz HDR. I had already been made aware of the 4k mode and changed that, but I just now got a tip to try reducing the 4K frequency. Going down to 4K 30 Hz HDR works through the Yamaha, but I am not sure if that "loses" more than not having HDR?

Hello,

I tried your suggestion since it worked for everyone else. Unfortunately, it didn't solve my problem. When I tried it, a white snowy box appears in the center of my TV and it switched back and forth with the "no signal" screen and the snowy box. I have an XBR75X940D and a Yamaha RX-A760. Could you tell me what your settings are on your Yamaha for video? I pressed the ON SCREEN button on my Yamaha remote, chose SETUP, and went to VIDEO. I tried it DIRECT and also PROCESSING with RESOLUTION as THROUGH. Still snowy box. I had to put it back to Mode 2 to get the Apple TV to work again.

I do know HDR works on the Apple TV as I did try it straight to the TV and it worked fine. Just doesn't pass through the Yamaha

Hey jcmjB, curious if you made any headway? I’ve had the same problem.

- Samsung QN65N9 TV

- Yamaha RX-V679

I can get the AT to run 4K HDR @ 30Hz directly into the TV, but nothing through the receiver. I thought that I’d be replacing the receiver anyway, but according to Yamaha it supports 4K HDR pass-through. I’ve tried all the suggestions in this thread (thanks by the way!). I tried changing settings on the tv but to no avail. Any thoughts?
