Do Not Disturb Turning Itself On

Have you checked the settings for DND in the Watch app on your iphone?

open the Watch app on your iPhone

goto:- My Watch, General, Do Not Disturb

what do you have set for:-

Workout Do Not Disturb

Mirror iPhone

???

perhaps those settings need to be switched off to make it work better for you

Sheba, try this:

1. Turn off Do Not Disturb on your iPhone. If it’s already off, all the better.

2. HARD restart your iPhone. (Simultaneously hold down power and home buttons. Wait till screen goes black. Keep holding those two buttons. When Apple Logo appears let go of buttons and wait for iPhone restart. The procedure is different for iPhone X.)

3. Turn ON Do Not Disturb on your iPhone. Set the scheduled on and off times for Do Not Disturb to a very small interval that has very little chance of being problematic...say 3:00-3:15am?

4. See if this works. If it does, then you could try turning off DND completely.

If this does or does not work, would you please let the community know. This would help others navigate similar troubled waters.

Hi Dappleid, The following are the steps I posted if you only have an iPhone. They are different if you have an iPhone and Apple Watch.

1. Turn off Do Not Disturb on your iPhone. If it’s already off, all the better.

3. Turn ON Do Not Disturb on your iPhone. Set the scheduled on and off times for Do Not Disturb to a very small interval that has very little chance of being problematic...say 3:00-3:15am?

4. See if this works. If it does, then you could try turning off DND completely. Or, if you DO want DND to function, but for a different time interval, go ahead and change to that interval. Just stay away from the exact time interval you had the iPhone set to in the beginning.

Let us know if this works so others will know. If you also have a Watch, I have posted those instructions earlier in the discussion thread.

The OP describes my situation too! I'll add one thing. Do not Disturb activates on my Apple Watch even when it is NOT activated on my iPhone (running iOS 11.1.2). I have tried all the debugging steps the OP states. No luck. I am very reluctant to restore my iPhone...even from backup. That takes so much time and effort and I would want some reassurance that it actually solves the problem before taking this step. Anyone know if this is a known bug? I am going to submit a feedback request to Apple on the Developer's site and see if I can get a response. And yes, I too have run afoul of my girlfriend (a.k.a. WIFE!) b/c of this nasty behavior of the Watch. I have a cellular-enabled Apple Watch 3.

P.S. I have considered the explanation that I am somehow swiping up on my Watch screen, exposing the Do not Disturb icon, and accidentally activating the feature. Then swiping down to hide all evidence of the dastardly act. I would bet my first born male child this is not what is happening. Having said that, I have only spawned female children. But, I hope you get my point.

By using the steps as listed from the following article you can reinstall the software on your iPhone:

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
   • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
   • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.
5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.

It's been a week since I did the following and my Watch has not mysteriously gone into Do Not Disturb mode once. Could be just random, dumb luck. Or maybe...

1. Turn off Do Not Disturb on iPhone.

2. Turn off "Mirror iPhone" setting in Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

3. HARD restart your iPhone. (Simultaneously hold down power and home buttons. Wait till screen goes black. Keep holding those two buttons. When Apple Logo appears let go of buttons and wait for iPhone restart. The procedure is different for iPhone X.)

4. HARD restart your Apple Watch. (Simultaneously hold down both side buttons until Watch screen goes black and then Apple Logo appears. Let go of buttons. Wait for the Apple Watch to restart.)

5. Turn on Do Not Disturb on your iPhone. For good measure, I changed the scheduled on and off times for Do Not Disturb by just a little bit compared to the times I had before performing Step 1.

6. Turn on "Mirror iPhone" setting in Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

Well, I’ll be the first to tell you, I’ve just taken your steps and am hoping this will fix my problem. I’ve missed calls and texts because of this bug and I’m a little fed up with the stock answers we the users keep getting. They keep treating this like it’s just one persons issue and aren’t paying attention to the fact that over multiple threads hundreds of people are stating the have exactly the same problem. I for one refuse to do a recover and restore. This is a bug in their system, not a user issue.

I’ll get back with you and let you know if this has in fact solved my problem. Crossing my fingers and toes and saying a Hail Mary for good measure. 🙏-1F3FB;😄

Same problem here Robbie, really ******* me off since I am currently in travel status for work and have to navigate different time zones. I am missing calls and texts for work and from my family. Just turned it off again this morning and restarting my phone is not helping. Fix this Apple!!!
