Cant play music through USB iOS11

Hi Guys,

updated my iphone 7 plus to iOS11, but now I cant play music through the usb to both my car and stereo dock. The phone will charge, but music will only play through the phone. Ive tried all the usual resets, tried songs through apple music and stored songs, but to no avail. is there any way to fix this?

I've had this bug with previous phones. Here's the issue. You need to have at least one song stored on your phone for your car to fully recognize your phone as an audio source. So go to iTunes and download a single song to your phone. Now connect your phone to your car using USB and let the car connect to the phone. All your other audio (YouTube, Spotiy, etc) should work fine. It took me forever to figure this out.

I’m using an iPhone SE with an updated iOS (11.2.6). When connected via USB on my Hyundai Accent’s stereo (Stereo Model: Hyundai CMU128), it doesn’t work and doesn’t even charge! It just makes this chime/beep sound (just like the sound when an iPhone is plugged in to charge) non-stop with maybe 10-sec interval per beep/sound. First, I thought it was just a problem with my lightning cable, but it works well when connected to a laptop/PC, powerbank, and charging adapters. Also, I tried using the Apple CarPlay but it doesn’t work there too. It cannot detect my car. What should I do to make my iPhone SE charge and play music in my car?

I tried this. Took my car back to the dealership, and was told my firmware was up to date so if it’s still not working to contact Apple. Which I’ve done. Apple needs to fix this. Ridiculous due to an iOS update I can no longer listen to my music in my car and had to make an appointment and drive to the dealership for a solution that didn’t exist.

I have an iPhone X and have the same issue. I have a 2009 Kia that has a special cord to play through the car stereo. Apple tried to tell me it was a cord, so I tried another and had the same problem. Here’s the only (very frustrating) way I can get it to work:

1. Set stereo to AUX and make sure it shows “connected”.

2. Open a podcast and push play

3. Plug in cord to connect to stereo (sometimes this takes a few tries).

4. Once the podcast starts to play, then switch to music.

It’s the stupidest thing ever!! It works for me to switch between the two but it has to be a specific order to it for it to work and it’s a giant pain.

I’m surprised Apple haven’t tried to blame Microsoft, yet.

Similar if not the same issue here, iPhone 6 - worked absolutely fine up until iOS 11.

Phone is dead slow, endless connection problems with my car, too.

Connect it to the car via lightening cable, sometimes it finds the phone, sometimes it doesn’t.

Songs cut out after 7-10 seconds, takes an age to switch between songs.

Making calls is ok, no issues there.

Obviously a software issue - would be nice if Apple just admitted it.

Having the same issue, the Apple rep told me I needed to update the firmware on my stereo, can't find any firmware updates for a 2013 Subaru Forrester online, I have contacted both Subaru and the Stereo manufacturer. Also having issues with some thunderbolt adaptors even charging my phone after the update.

The only success I've had was to start playing the music or podcast through the speakers on my phone, then to plug in the thunderbolt-USB adaptor. Apple really dropped the ball on this one and has several updates in iOS to make a fix.

xzibit_007, I had the same issue. On this thread, someone suggested going to Settings/General/Reset All. This worked for me.

I have two vehicles that I play music through the USB: one has an aftermarket Kenwood and one is the stock stereo in a Hyundai Santa Fe. When music wouldn't play through either, I knew it was the phone and not the stereos.

No need to "Upgrade firmware" on your stereo or other devices. Just make sure you select "Reset All Settings," not "Erase All Settings."

Good luck.

I know that this is an older thread but I wanted to say that adding a song to my iPhone 5s with iOS 11.3 from iTunes fixed the issue I was having. I have a JVC KW-HDR720 unit in my vehicle and, after an iPhone update awhile back, it stopped displaying the song information when playing from iPhones. When any iPhone was connected it would flash "Cannot Play" on the display, even though music was actually playing. Once I added a song to my iPhone the song information started being displayed again. Great job to SaNdSuKkA for figuring this out and posting the fix.

My iPhone 8 Plus music stops playing after about 60 secs when connected to car usb. It just started happening one day. I’ve had the phone for less than a month. It worked flawlessly for about 3 weeks when connected to my car’s USB. I know it is not the car because my wife’s phone works fine. I restored the phone back to an backup that I did of my old phone before I set up the 8 and it still is having this issue. I have deleted all my music and then redownloaded a playlist and it still doesn’t work.
