Unlocking a CD on OS9.2

Hi,

I burned some .sit files that were in dmg mode from my Powerbook using the latest version of Toast since I can't burn .sit format in Disk Utility. I files were in .dmg and I archived them to .sit so it read .dmg.sit for the file. I also duplicated those and made one that also read just .sit at the end without .dmg there.

I chose the Mac and PC format to burn with Toast and then I put them in my older iMac G3 and it says the program that created this cannot be found so I chose stuffit to open. Then I get this message: The disk with your preferred destination folder is currently locked. Well how do I unlock this?

Thanks,

S.

Hi, spiralgirl. A CD-R disc can't be unlocked — it's a read-only medium once you've burned it. The trick you need is to select a destination for Stuffit to expand the files to that isn't read-only, like your desktop.

Stuffit Expander's preferences may be set to auto-select a destination, usually the same place where the compressed archive resides. If that's the case, simply Option-drag the archive from the CD-R onto your desktop (which will make a copy of it there) and then expand it.
