iOS 11 WiFi dropping

Not sure this is happening with anybody else but after updating to iOS 11 my iPhone 7 plus started to drop the WiFi signal constantly. Sometimes it keeps asking to enter the WiFi password again.

Interestingly, this happens at a spot where my Macbook works perfectly connected to the same WiFi. I haven't changed router, settings, didn't move furniture, etc. The infrastructure is exactly the same, the only difference is iOS 11 running on my iPhone.

Anybody?

Hi,

I'm testing the tip #5 I have found here: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2017/09/fix-ios-11-wifi-problems.html

#5. Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services

Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.

So far so good on my iPhone 7+.

Can anybody check if it solves this WiFi dropping issue on your device?

Good luck!

Totally understand how you feel Steve. I’ve been resetting it at least twice a day. Just another update to all, turning off cellular data didn’t help stabilize the connection. It just make perfect sense that I’m not eating into my data plan. Furthermore, I’ve been getting prompts now to re-enter my wifi password more frequently telling me that it has an incorrect password. Let’s hope Apple solve this quickly.

Guys I got it work! I was frustrated and I borrow an iPhone 6s 16gb from a friend. As I was using a iPhone 6 64gb, I had to delete many apps to reduce the size to below 16gb. Surprisingly, after deleting a lot of apps, I proceeded to do a backup into my iMac and so readily excited to use the new iPhone 6s. And guess what. My WiFi on my iPhone 6 is back to normal with 3 bars of strong signals.

You guys might want to try deleting those unused apps that are choking up your storage. Do a backup to your computer and see if the WiFi issue is resolve. Good luck!

Yes. I know it’s ridiculous to even think storage has something to do with WiFi connectivity. I’m also pretty much stunned at the outcome of this. But one possibility cause that I could think of would be the apps that I have are running at the background without my knowledge. As I’m still receiving notifications from apps that I no longer use or open for a long time. I think the tons of apps combined could been utilizing the bandwidth of the WiFi connections to its limit and causing it to drop. But I may be wrong because someone using a brand new iPhone 8 with minimal apps is facing a connection problem too. Probably doing a back up is more accurate. Idk myself. But my phone seems to be running a lot faster now.

Hi guys,

I have the same problem on iphone and ipads on ios 11 especially on 5ghz bands, i have a support contract with cisco (im using their enterprise wireless) they looked at all the logs and it all points back to ios 11 as an issue. They said if i had a enterprise support contract with apple they could open a ticket with apple but i dont have one. Cisco tac told me they are seeing lot of issues with Ios 11 and customers using it on their enterprise cisco networks.

In the mean time ive had to create a 2.4ghz only ssid to get some stability on ipads and

iphones.

So my advice to apple is to work with cisco and get your products working better as this shouldnt be happpening.

Hey All!

Ok..... Ive had my iphone 6 128gb for about a year to date and over the last month or two my wifi and bluetooth has not worked properly. Most of the time and every now and again ill get one bar of wifi for a few minutes then gone. I have a greyed out wifi switch that wont move and every time i try with the short cut wifi button it goes blue then grey.

I tried all of the above, reset network settings, backup reset and restore phone etc etc. Spoke with apple tech but Nothing seemed to work.

So iv decided iv had enough and im going to sell it. so story goes like this......i want to factory reset the phone before i sell. I look at the apple page and it instructs me that before giving your apple product away you need to log out of icloud/apple acount before reset "for safe security and all that". Once done you can factory reset.

I then do as it says and log out of my icloud/apple id account.

LO AND BEHOLD WIFI/BLUETOOTH back in full effect!!!!

Another bit of apple trickery hidden in the updates to get you to purchase a new phone.

Not once when i spoke to and apple tech did they mention/suggest this might be the problem all i was told is that if all the reset stuff does not work it might need new wifi hardware ££££££ "or how about a new iphone 8 or X. Funny guys you cant hate there marketing strategy

Anyway this worked for me and hopefully it might be the answer for others obviously the other issue now is not being logged in to your apple account where all your personal stuff resides.

Many of us are having the same/similar WiFi drops...some folks are reporting Bluetooth drops also....my experience as I reported in this discussion was the problem appeared to go away with iOS 11.1.1 however, it came back several days later. I then upgraded to iOS 11.2 and it’s still dropping in my home network. However I just implemented Amplifis Mesh Network and it doesn’t appear to be dropping...could be my old router access points were broadcasting the old 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi protocol and the new network is supporting the 802.11ac protocol. but another persin just reported he logged out of his iCloud account on his iPhone 6 and the problem was solved. Not sure if he just logged out of iCloud, rebooted his phone then logged back in...trying to find out exactly what he did ...folks are getting closer but seems like Apple isn’t admitting to the problem so we are left to waiting for it to magically go away in some next iOS release...stay tuned....

I'm having the same issue and have tried everything in all 8 pages of this thread including replacing my gateway. I'm currently using the ATT BGW 210 gateway and I'm at my wits end with this issue. Tried signing out of iCloud, restarting and signing back in but the issue persists. I did a restore to out of the box today and then restored my backup and still the same thing! It's driving me nuts and I guess making an appointment at the Genius Bar is fruitless seeing the amount of people that have had up to 3 replacements and are still experiencing the same thing. What to do?

Well I managed to keep connected to Wi-Fi overnight so far after some tweaks, this is what I did. I renamed my SSID. AT&T rolled out fiber into our neighborhood a year ago and the gigabit service is very popular. I’ve noticed all the ATT Wi-Fi networks in the area all have similar names in this format: ATT#X#x#x#. Just in case the phone was getting confused from the similar prefix I changed the name, I don’t really think it made a difference but what the ****. I also increased the number of maximum clients the 2.4GHz radio can use (ATT BGW 210 gateway, I think it is manufactured by Arris) from 80 to 99 and the max clients on the 5GHz radio from 80 to 99 also. I don’t really think this is the answer but so far my phone has kept connected to the Wi-Fi network overnight while I slept for about 8 hours now. I’ll keep you updated on what happens next.

Here's some more information: iPad Mini running iOS 9.3.5 stays connected to the wifi with a rock solid connection, no issues at all. As I stated above, my iPhone X running 11.2 is still connected to wifi. The wife's iPhone 8 running 11.2 dropped the wifi connection over night. When I look under the wifi name in the OS the IP address is populated, the subnet mask is populated but the router field is blank. It will not connect to wifi.

And so it goes on...

Updated to iOS 11.2 in the hope that the WiFi problem had at least been resolved but from my personal experience, its worse! Not only that but my iPhone 6 in general is suffering quite badly with apps not running or severe delays when opening, the keyboard stops responding halfway through typing words in all apps, screen freezes up and apps just randomly close, battery life is poor, calls often don’t connect - just silence when dialling and I still can’t get Siri to function correctly...not impressed. I’m seriously considering changing my phone now...bring back iOS 10 please!!
