iOS 11 WiFi dropping

Not sure this is happening with anybody else but after updating to iOS 11 my iPhone 7 plus started to drop the WiFi signal constantly. Sometimes it keeps asking to enter the WiFi password again.

Interestingly, this happens at a spot where my Macbook works perfectly connected to the same WiFi. I haven't changed router, settings, didn't move furniture, etc. The infrastructure is exactly the same, the only difference is iOS 11 running on my iPhone.

Anybody?

Hi,

I'm testing the tip #5 I have found here: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2017/09/fix-ios-11-wifi-problems.html

#5. Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services

Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.

So far so good on my iPhone 7+.

Can anybody check if it solves this WiFi dropping issue on your device?

Good luck!

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear you’re having the same problem but pleased that I’m not the only one. Only thing I’ve come up with is to disable mobile data connection while at home or anywhere I am able to connect to secure WiFi, turning off ‘Use Mobile Data’ for any non essential apps and/or services and keep checking regularly that WiFi is actually connected. Things have improved very slightly since iOS11.1 but most of the time I find the phone disconnected completely. Toggling WiFi on/off or Airplane Mode On/Off sometimes helps or trying to connect to any other visible WiFi network in the vicinity (any that are unknown to which I have no login details) and then reconnecting to home/known network tends to force a connection temporarily. I then turn mobile date back on when I’m away from a WiFi connection - if I remember - to keep things ticking over. Since doing this my mobile date use has come down considerably. I realise this is far from a ‘fix’ but it’s the only option I have at present.

My phone is becoming less and less responsive and more ‘buggy’ as the days go by so I hope Apple sort this out soon,

Hope some of this helps,

Steve.

I too have been having this problem with my wifi connections every since I’ve installed ios 11. I am getting so frustrated with it that I’m am very close to chucking out all my Apple devices and going Android. I have done a hard restart. Forget Wifi and start all over again. I have even reset the Network... all to no avail, it’s still doing it.

It is a shame Apple is about to lose me and others I know that is having this issue and more that has occurred since the recent iOS changes (This is only 1 of a few problems I have had since the change 😟

This is a Apple software issue. I was scheduled to replace the new iPhone 8 twice again after they did replace 3times and they refused to do so as they are not confident as is the same issue with all previous replaced new devices!! Asked them wether this is a known problem with new phone/software their answer first time we run to this issue and they did escalate this to their engineers and waiting to hear next steps... i feel like I’m stuck with this device/issue and tired to visit the Apple store and spend over two hours each time for them to send me back with out fixing the issue..!!

Yes...exactly...seems the 11.1.1 update appears to have resolved the WiFi issue I was having with both iPhone 6s and iPad Pro 9.7...my surface laptop never dropped from the network so I still believe is was Apple preferring to mysteriously fix problems to avoid wide sor ad media chatter....it feels like the old way mircrosoft use to do things with windows 9x back in the day...will monitor this one going forward...Happy so far

Same problem happens with iPhone 5s and iPad Mini on iOS 11.1. Boot up, connects to Wi Fi ok, then in 10-30 secs drops the connection(wifi icon at top of screen) while retaining wifi on status in Settings. Will not reconnect again unless I turn the device off but then it recurs. Changing location, router, time—no fix. Resetting network settings no fix either

I have updated to iOS11.1.1 on iPhone 6 and been running it for a few days now, the WiFi issue is better - not completely resolved as I still have episodes where I have to try and ‘force’ a connection - so things are moving in the right direction just not quite there yet.

As for the phone in general on this latest update, performance is still not good, the system really struggles sometimes and is very slow to respond, some processes are taking between 10 to 20 seconds to run when they used to respond instantly, hopefully the next update that is currently being beta tested will improve things further.

After having this problem with a hotel wi-fi system away from home, I updated to 11.1.1 and the problem has not recurred, at least with my home router so far, on either my iPhone 5s or my iPad mini. There are some functions of 11.1.1 that seem to be slower opening, as noted by others above, but these are not overly problematic. I have not yet tested either device on other routers away from home.

I’m having the same problem where my WiFi connection keeps dropping when I’m in my room. I never experienced this problem before as my WiFi is always in range.

In fact I busted my data by 3gb because it automatically turns to 4G for a better connection when the wifi is weak. My iMac and my other devices are all in the exact same location with strong signals. Doesn’t explains why my iPhone is getting weak connection.

I tried disabling my cellular data and my WiFi connections seems to be stable. I’m suspecting it’s an interference from the 4G connection that intercepts my WiFi connection. Seems to be the case for this iOS 11 update. I never hadn’t this problem with the previous ios10 versions.

Hi All,

Just another quick update.

I initially thought iOS 11.1.2 had solved the WiFi issue for me as all seemed ok for a few days but alas, the problem has returned, not only that but I’ve noticed my phone seems to be getting steadily worse day by day. I’ve lost count of the number of resets I’ve done and I’ve even tried running the phone as an ‘out of the box’ device just in case it was down to third party apps but the issues remain. For the first time since picking this phone up new three years ago, I am starting to hate it, it’s no longer the stable, reliable device it once was, it hasn’t been right since iOS11 first arrived, prior to that it was fine...really disappointed.
