iOS 11 WiFi dropping

Not sure this is happening with anybody else but after updating to iOS 11 my iPhone 7 plus started to drop the WiFi signal constantly. Sometimes it keeps asking to enter the WiFi password again.

Interestingly, this happens at a spot where my Macbook works perfectly connected to the same WiFi. I haven't changed router, settings, didn't move furniture, etc. The infrastructure is exactly the same, the only difference is iOS 11 running on my iPhone.

Anybody?

Hi,

I'm testing the tip #5 I have found here: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2017/09/fix-ios-11-wifi-problems.html

#5. Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services

Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.

So far so good on my iPhone 7+.

Can anybody check if it solves this WiFi dropping issue on your device?

Good luck!

I was having the same issues.

However after playing with some settings on the settings page on my iPhone with the router I wanted to connect to (renewing lease, turning the phone off and on, resetting the WiFi router), I found that if you click the actual router name, there is an option for ‘auto join’.

For me this has worked since, so when the iPhone is in standby it doesn’t just drop.

iPhone 7 Plus here with iOS 11.0.3.

This is what is happening to me; When I wake up the iPhone from sleep (wifi is connected), the screen first shows LTE (Cellular), the it immediately shows WIFI Symbol again.

This happens usually. I wonder, when the phone is in sleep mode and the WIFI is dropped, if the LTE is activated automatically. If so, I am eating up from my Cellular network's Data, and that ain't so good!

However, when I observe the Cellular Data Usage from iPhone's Menu, it seem no Cellular Data is used, the last number is still there. (Let's say the Cellular was at 230 MB, before it went to sleep mode, and when I woke the phone up in the morning it still says 230 MB.)

Seem like only a screen/display glitch. When the iPhone goes in to sleep mode, the display turns to LTE and when I wake the phone up, the diplay shows LTE, but immediately goes back to WIFI Symbol again...

As far as Wifi drops, if I am far away from my Modem, WIFI turns into LTE for a moment, but when I get closer to the modem, WIFI symbol comes back on.

I seem to remember WIFI range was better with iOS10. I might be wrong, may be it is that display glitch that shows LTE instead of WIFI. What I am trying to say is I used to see WIFI symbol with iOS 10, when I was far away from the modem. But with the iOS 11.0.3, same distance from Modem, iPhone (or at least the display) switches to the LTE.

I also have this peciluar thing with the Messages Application on iPhone 7 Plus, ios 11.0.3 ;

If I empty all the messages inside the conversation thread, "that" Conversation Thread title as a whole is now erased from Messages. I used to be able to delete all the contents from Message/Conversation Thread but the Conversation Thread was still there, only the inside of it was emptied. In other words, I now can't have empty conversation thread. There has to be at least one message inside the thread now.

Second thing is, let's say I am starting a brand new iMessage from scratch. But I just want to send an emoji. My screen is messed up. I have to exit the Messages Application and re-enter again to change everything back to normal. The emoji is sent to the recipient, though. No problems there..

It seem like sending just an Emoji to your friend messes up the iPhone Messages Screen. But the message has to be brand new. If you already have an existing conversation with your friend, everything works flawlessley..

Weird Stuff...

I hope that you're not going to rely on Maps or any other navigation app. You've crippled it. (Yes, WiFi assists GPS in performing its functions).

Have similar issues here on iPhone6 since upgrading to iOS11. I only found out after receiving a text from my ISP to inform me of my excessive use of mobile data, I have used the equivalent of six months data in only two weeks as a result of WiFi continuously dropping out. Unknowingly to me, since upgrading to iOS11, app updates, data syncing, backups and media use has all taken place using mobile data instead of my home WiFi, now that I am aware I make sure my mobile WiFi is turned off on the phone while at home.

I tried resetting the network settings to no avail and have just factory reset the phone but that hasn’t helped either.

Have also been experiencing major battery drain and have found I now only get a couple of hours out of a full charge.

I know Apple will address the problems as soon as they can, I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.

I have similar issue on 6S Plus and noticed that in most of the cases device drops Wi-Fi when I'm on a call via Skype, Hangouts, WebEx or other call or meeting app. Higher signal drop probability (I would say up to a 99%) is when my Bluetooth headset is connected too. It does the same either I'm connected to my home 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi, no difference. Extremely annoying, because when it drops signal during a call, mobile connection takes time to catch up and reception in a place where I work isn't the best 😕

This is happening to me as well with IPhone 8 and is the third replacement from apple store and same issue. Dropping the WiFi and doesn’t recognize any available networks! Only by hard restarting the phone connects automatically to the WiFi and recognizes available networks..

Recently contacted apple support again about the 3rd replacement phone and they suggested to upgrade to iOS 11.1 and that should take care the issue but gues what.! NO, same issue!!

Quick update to my previous post.

Since updating to iOS11.1, the WiFi drop out issue seems to have been fixed but now have an additional problem with the notification panel ‘blacking out’ intermittently when pulling down from the top of the screen and I have to lock and unlock the phone to clear it, on the rare occasion that it doesn’t, all the notifications are jumbled up and often not able to be read or swiped.

Overall system response since the update is slightly faster but some apps refuse to open or work correctly.

As before I have reset settings but this makes no difference.

I have an appointment at the apple store in few hours to replace the iPhone 8 for the 4th time. Fingers crossed I’m hoping not to deal this this issue again otherwise have to make a hard decision to switch to different brand after being an apple fanatic since 1st generation!

•Very frustrating and disappointed!!
