External monitor problem iMac 2017 High Sierra.

I try to connect a Samsung external monitor to my new 2017 iMac, but the monitor isn´t being recognized. I used the same monitor with my 2012 Mac mini and it all worked fine (even with two monitors).

I use a new USB – C 3.1 to DVI adaptor, but my iMac isn´t recognizing my Samsung monitor.

I have just updated to Mac OS High Sierra and it still doesn´t work (it didn`t work with Mac OS Sierra either).

And yes, I have opened up system preferences and Displays. Using my Mac mini, the Samsung display showed up in preferences.

Searching the net, it seem to be a problem for many people, but I cannot find a solution.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Also having a problem after updating to High Sierra. I have one display connected with displayport and a second display connected with HDMI. I cannot get them to work at the same time. The mouse cursor is displayed on both, but one of the displays is always completely black. Which one works seems to be random and changes when I unplug one of them and then plug it back

It works!

NOTE: I was using two thunderbold outputs...and when I did that one of them didn't work, and had the same characteristics as describes above. I moved the non-working on to a USB output...and behold I have all my screens...so it seems that if I'm using a different "type" of port for each of my three externals, I work.

Yay! (ish)...just FYI for anyone else maybe experiencing the same.

Thanks all for the help.

Hi d3vinda,

Do you think this DisplayLink driver could also work for devices that don’t require it? My external monitor is a Dell and there are no drivers for Mac on their website. The dock I’m using to connect it via an Apple VGA to Mini DisplayPort adapter is the OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock. They don’t have any drivers that fit this need either. I can successfully use my Dell monitor with an HDMI to USB C adapter plugged directly into the right side USB C port and it wakes fine. I was just hoping to be able to leave that port open and just utilize the Mini DisplayPort on the T3 Dock.

Should I just try and install DisplayLink driver anyhow? Or would it be useless to me? Thanks for your help.

Yes I have the same issue. Second display was working fine until upgraded to High Sierra.... I have a AOC connected via display/thunderbolt to HDMI on the monitor.

I have tried multiple restarts, unplugging the cable etc.

I was literally on my way to buy a new monitor, but i don't think that will help by the sounds of everyone else issues.

Come on Apple, lets get this sorted quickly - need my extra desktop space....

Apple has made it where you cannot do anything that has the Apple brand on it. Lazy and arragorate development could be a case! For example, I had the ability to use the USB mac to connect to any monitor (usb or thier connector). Why and should an update make things not work in the past such as connecting to a **** monitor? Should thier development encompass and include things you use and the newer things to use on your mac? They spend on marketing and branding to sell us slight improvements because you belong to the Apple club! Typically Apple will believe it's being this single proprietary hardware and software is the "all. " Case and fact and google it. This High Sirrea update has cause so many issues with everyone out of the blue... WHY! Thanks again Apple!! People don't fall for this. Seek everything and anything that leads you not depending on this arrogance and the power of stock holders that it's aim to make you have the best and current greatest. The PC is comming back as more flexible and more powerfull!

Also having a problem after updating to High Sierra. I have one display connected with display port and a second display connected with HDMI. I cannot get them to work at the same time. The mouse cursor is displayed on both, but one of the displays is always completely black. I tried twice rebooting the MacBook Pro, no change. I am at stuck with one monitor at work, that hurts. Display preferences shows both monitors with display names, so I am not sure why one (DELL P2412H) is black screen.

Only thing that works for me is-to unplug the monitor and plug back in. That doesn't mean turn power off with button or remote

Bought my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 today, because I could not handle not using both my screens anymore. Best part is you can eliminate 2 devices with it( MacBook Pro & iPad Pro), going to be interesting going back to windows after +/- 10 years on OSX. Will keep everyone updated on my progress. Although I think I should be OK, as most of my day to day is MS Office (with OneDrive) and Adobe Creative Cloud. Got Spotify Music too. Easier than ever to change across. Will be keeping my iPhone, but will be monitoring other alternatives.

Good for you but still not working on my MBP 15’ 2017...

Tried everything, even buying a different usb-c hdmi adapter other than satechi like belkin (sold in all Apple global stores therefore fully compatible with all Apple products) and still having mouse cursor freeze for 2 secs every 2 secs of movement on both screens (laptop and external Samsung 34’ curved monitor).

This means that the problem is in the High Sierra OS...

Desperately need to work with my external monitor!!!

Reality is: Apple stuffed this up, so Apple must fix this global problem ASAP with an update.

Back to work Apple and just do it

Different people seem to be having success by doing a number of things, although mainly updating Displaylink drivers if you run your multiscreen setup through a hub. I don't and simply connect USB-C through to HDMI via a lead. To date I have only found two ways of solving this problem. First is to unplug and reconnect my second screen each time the computer goes to sleep and the second is to go back to Sierra where everything then works fine. I have 2017 iMac and a new Acer monitor if that helps. Resetting VRAM etc.. seems to offer a temporary fix for a day or so, but as sooner as think its fixed I go back to the Blue Screen of Death on my second monitor. I suspect Apple would like everybody to move to a USB-C connected monitor which I bet would solve the underlying issue but finding one at the moment is hard and they are way too expensive. It would be good to find out from anybody if this does indeed work so at least we would all know their end game.

Still the fact that Apple didn’t go through all testing with High Sierra before it public release (mistake or...) and now we (customers) after we paid lots of money for our Apple computer and a an external monitors, now working too hard every day with reduced performance because of the external monitor not working anymore and even try to make it to work ourselves spending more money and time on posts and troubleshooting !!!

Are we crazy?

Apple is responsible for this and the whole world know.

They have to put the good part of the code of Sierra, where all external monitors were working and past it into High Sierra. It’s not hard for them come on!
