Canon Imagerunner won't scan to file using samba with High Sierra. This function worked fine with Sierra. I updated now I can't scan to file. I checked the box in sharing to share folders using samba (SMB), but that hasn't worked. Please help
Apple has not used Samba for several years now, opting to provide its own SMB management solution.

No, I haven't updated the drivers from canon. I didn't need drivers to use the scan to file function before.
I have tried scanning to the new APFS system and an attached drive using HFS+ - neither works.
Everything was working fine under SIerra.
I have a similar problem with a HP printer, which cannot scan to a Samba share folder on a High Sierra computer for color scans with 300 dpi (but works for B&W scans of 300 dpi, but not 600 dpi).
Why do you think it's related to FTP? Would installing a FTP server help?
If your scanner scans one way (BW) but not another (color), that sounds like a different problem than the lack of FTP. FTP allows the scanner to communicate with the computer, and if your scanner is communicating, then the problem with color scanning is probably related to a driver that needs to be updated. If FTP were the issue, then you would have no communication between the scanner and the computer.
On the other hand, I did find a solution to my problem, and that was by buying CrushFTP and getting it set up to do FTP when Apple has abandoned it.
I have localized the problem. High Sierra doesn't have FTP. You have to run a sudo command in terminal to enable FTP and when I run it the response is that High Sierra doesn't have such a file. On the other hand, on my other office computer, which I haven't updated to High Sierra, I was able to successfully get scan to folder working.
Thus, Apple needs to get High Sierra patched to work with FTP scanning.
