iCloud Notes Not Syncing

I am using Notes with iCloud on my MacBook (10.12.6) and iPhone (iOS 11). However, Notes is no longer syncing to iCloud. Both devices are out of sync and when I open up Notes on my MacBook, it just keeps trying to sync but never does.

I did make sure to login in to iCloud and I tried disabling and enabling iCloud notes but nothing works so far.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Try going to iCloud.com using a computer to see if the items are there and whether they are from the device or the computer. That should show whether the device or the computer isn't syncing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing. If the device, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and do the above. You can also try signing out of iCloud and then sign in again.

I've experienced the same as well. Sign in to iCloud.com to check if your devices are listed and synced. For starters, make sure all your iOS devices are up to date, that includes your MacBook. Then, try signing out of your iCloud account and re-signing back in. If that fails, delete your notes app on your iPhone and re-install it (this worked for me).

Good luck !

I found a solution without the urge to update:

I remember that it stopped syncing after I worded on my workplace iMac (you understand that is the one creating the problem as it will have the new not synced edit of your notes) so after trying to disable/re-enable all accounts on the others devices and not finding a solution I tried to copy the last not synced note, disable the iCloud Note feature on it, re-enable it again and paste the previous note. This fixed it for me!

As per this article Upgrade your Notes app - Apple Support

To use the latest Notes features, all you have to do is upgrade.

When you update your device to the latest iOS or macOS and open Notes for the first time, you see the option to upgrade. Choose Upgrade Now, then both your notes on your device and your notes on iCloud.com upgrade. And if you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on your other devices with iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan and later, any changes you make to a note on one device instantly appear on all your other devices.

Make sure that your notes finish upgrading before you leave the Notes app.

I have never had a problem with sync until I updated to the latest iOS 11.4.1 Then all of my Notes were deleted and it quit syncing as well. After several hours and messing around and checking two phones, two iPads, a laptop and my iMac I figured it out. When I did the update of my iPad for some reason it had me sign in to iCloud and I messed up and put my wifes icloud username and password in by mistake. So several things looked OK but things like my contact list and notes was messed up. Over the years we ended up with two different icloud accounts but the same password. Dumb mistake but stuff like that happens. Try to think of the simple things first. Sync works fine all my devices very quickly.

I'm running macOS 10.13 High Sierra on both my MacBook Pro and iMac, and iOS 11.0.1 on my iPhone and iPad.

After posting my previous comment I ran a test on all my devices, creating a new note on each one, including on iCloud.com.

My MacBook Pro and iCloud.com almost immediately refreshed with the note created on the other device (although they remain out of sync with respect to older notes).

My iMac quickly displayed the notes created in the cloud and on my MacBook Pro, but the note I created in the iMac took over an hour to appear elsewhere.

The Notes app on my iPhone and iPad have not synced at all, several hours later, in either direction.

I find it enormously frustrating, not only that iCloud sync is still so utterly unreliable, but that Apple provides ZERO transparency or troubleshooting utilities to diagnose and resolve these issues.

Thanks Eric

It takes a sign out / sign in to fix it and yes, it is only Notes it affects - everything else works pretty well. The problem happens every week or so, so I'm going to reinstall the phone from scratch and see if that does any good - although it's not that long since I did that either.

But whatever you still lose the unsynced content unless you can spot it - and as I have 400MB in Notes across twenty folders. Oh, and the other diagnostic symptom is that it always syncs changes in from other devices (deletions, edits);it's just changes on the phone that don't get to the cloud.
