high sierra: keyboard not responding after update

Hello. Today I updated my late 2013 MBP to macOS Hight Sierra. Everything was fine, but after few hours of work keyboard and touchpad stopped reacting. I force turned off computer by holding power button, and now can't login: i click to my profile - nothing happened. I connected usd mouse - also not working for click (but cursor is moving). I tried to use keyboard (Tab and Enter) to login - nope. I rebooted to restore mode, was able to see menu (restore from time machine, reinstall os and etc), I was able to move selection in this menu using keyboard arrows, but other buttons not working.

Any ideas, what else I can try?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13)

Hi Folks,

I've been dealing with this issue for the last couple of months now. Tried all possible things that have been posted din the forum. Ended up spending $450 because the Genuis Bar folks decided it was a HW issue and replaced the entire keyboard and trackpad. This was inspite of me telling Apple support and genius bar that this started to happen after upgrade to High Sierra.

Even after the HW upgrade, once I reinstalled my data fro TM backup, the problem was back again. The only way i was able to address this is

1) Back up data into TM

2) Erase the HDD and went into Internet recovery mode

3) After the internet recovery mode, it suggested installing El Capitan (i guess that was the last best known configuration that was there on my system)

4) Installed El Capitan, the relevant security updates etc

5) From my TM, copied only the data

Its been a few days and everything is working fine. Hope Apple realizes that they have an issue with High Sierra and addresses it. They should also ensure their Genius Bar folks are aware of this instead of trying to do a standard HW replace.

I have the exact same problem a few weeks ago and now I'm having it again. I originally spent about an hour on the phone with apple including high level support. The mouse would move around but could not click on anything. the tab button would work and arrow keys but not all options you could click enter or spacebar to select. They also booted up and created a test account but it didn't work. Took it to the apple store and they did a clean wipe and reinstall on the Mac portion (also running bootcamp...no issues with mouse or clicking there). It worked fine and now I have the same problem. BTW. There were no hardware issues on diagnostic.

I have a wireless (not bluetooth) mouse by Logitech; could that be the issue? I can't keep reinstalling the OS every time I have this problem.

Update : It's all coincidence. I had the same problem with MBP early 2015, 13 retina, after upgrade High Sierra. In official services told me lot of stupid thinks and in conclusion that everything is OK with my comp, but I had a problem with keyboard and trackped sometimes but very often . I downgrade software, they told me that maybe I will have to change Trackpad Touchpad Cable around 100$, Top case around 700$ or Motherboards around 720$ .......When I lost patience to solve the problem with the software (new version firmware etc) I went from the cheapest item. I bout this cable NEW Trackpad Touchpad Cable 821-00184-A for Apple Macbook Pro 13" 2015 A1502 USA 703681789096 | eBay ,with a friend, I changed it in 20 minutes and I have not problem last two weeks. Before that I had illusion that for this is guilty High Sierra. It coasted 6.74$. I hope that the problem is solve.
