I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

More RAM would help, but considering the age of this Mac, you may also want to think about whether you want to save for a newer Mac.

While RAM should not be expensive, you can only add so much.

Respected RAM vendors

OWC <http://MacSales.com>

Crucial <http://Crucial.com>

Also replacing the rotation hard disk with an SSD will boost performance as well. For this I would look at OWC <http://MacSales.com>

But upgrading hardware vs getting a new Mac, the new Mac will have faster, better and more of everything. It will just cost more 🙂

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, I am dealing with Covered California's updated system and I have an older MacBookPro that cannot

deploy the latest Internet Explorer or Chrome or Safari, etc. It's very frustrating that they are requiring the insured

to have the latest browser versions. Hopefully, they will be making adjustments soon. I have also been trying to find someone with a re-bootable download of Yosemite, since the word seems to be that my laptop can handle 10.10.

I tried putting El Cap into it last year, at an Apple tech's suggestion, and it crashed.

Thanks for this. Here's the report:

OK, I got it to respond. It's all in the wrist. . . Got a better report.

Thanks for the feedback.

Unless I find someone with a bootable Yosemite update, I'll probably bite the proverbial bullet

and buy something newer. Considering Bob Harris' advice re: RAM and SSD upgrade.

Any thoughts on a mid 2010 IMac 27" 2.8 (or more) 4 gig/1 TB? Hear they are pretty durable.

Cheers

The SMART report looks good.

1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 062 Pre-fail Always - 0

5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 005 Pre-fail Always - 0

223 Load_Retry_Count 0x000a 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0

As you can see the last column (RAW Counts) are all zeros for these items. This is very good.
