My iPad Pro keeps dropping WiFi signals

My 2017 IPad Pro 12.9 continues to connect and then drop WiFi connections. I can connect just fine with my iPhone 7 Plus as well as my MacBook Pro.

Same here. iPad Pro 10,5“, latest iOS. Tried with the router my Internet Provider sent me and now with an Apple AirPort Express. The internet connection drops while WiFi is still on and working. Even more annoying because I use it with my CC POS in my shop. This is not really how you become trustworthy with your customers when their payment fails every 2nd time.

I have exactly the same setup and exactly the same symptoms. iPad Pro, Google mesh wifi, and intetnet drops exactly as you’ve described - while the wifi itself remains connected to the device. My iPad didn’t do this before I got the the Google WiFi. So I can only guess (somewhat obviously) that there’s something weird with iPad Pro and Google WiFi. Unfortunately I too haven’t found a fix, but would be very grateful if anyone knows anything that might help!

This continues to be problem. My iPad (2017 - 9.7”) continues to drop WiFi connections even while I’m using it. No issues with my iPhone or PC. Losing internet connection while booking travel or doing banking is truly annoying. Looks like it’s been going on for more than a year for some users. I guess Apple products are not as reliable as they were in the past.

Started to have the same problem a couple weeks ago on my IPad Air 2. No consistency to when it happens, but is not happening on any other Apple devices, like my IPhone 6, Apple TV, or our Mac. And when I try to rejoin it says the password is wrong and I know it isn’. The only way I can get on is by getting permission from my IPhone to join the networ. Weird and frustrating!

It is now 9/18 and Apple still hasn’t fixed the problem of iPad dropping WiFi connection nor do they provide help here. My iPad Pro has dropped the connection 3X in four hours while all other devices and my TV remain on so it is not the carrier! I have to power down and restart each time! Extremely annoying!!! If I try and sign on before shutting down it will state I’m using incorrect password, which I’m not. After restarting goes right to my WiFi no password required. FIX IT APPLE! Why aren’t your experts replying to this complaints?

I am having the same issue. It started earlier this year. I upgraded to the GiG service in my area earlier this year. I can’t remember if I was having this issue prior to that because I had crappy wifi service. Anyway, now after the iOS 12 update my iPad Pro (9.7” wifi and cellular) seems to not only drop my wifi connection, it apparently can’t find anything using the spotlight search in any app or from the home screen. Very frustrating. I have had this for a little over 2 years. My iPad 2 last four years before I gave it away, and there was nothing wrong with it (I upgraded). I am so frustrated.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat after upgrading to iOS 12.01.

My iPad mini has stopped holding a Wi-Fi connection and it echoes all the problems outlined here.

I also want to echo how disappointed I am with Apple. I have been a user and supporter from when I first used an Apple computer in the early 90s and I am saddened to see how indifferent, greedy and elitist they have become.

I am also having such issue with my iPad Pro 9.7". It can connect to a number of wireless access points and hotspot but it just refuses to connect to my mobile hotspot.

I have reset network settings, reset all settings and even restore my iOS 11. I have even tried rolling back to iOS 10 but to no avail.

I have restarted my hotspot and even reconfigured it but its still the same.

All my other devices including iPads, iPhones, Mac and other mobile devices have no issues connecting to the said hotspot. I'm wondering if it could be a hardware defect on my iPad as it was able to connect to that hotspot all these while until recently.

Sometimes my iPad 4 (currently at iOS 10.3.3, since it isn't supported by 11) drops "Wifi," but I can still connect to my router's setup page. In other words, the Wifi connection is solid, but it can't reach the Internet. None of these solutions help this. To add insult to injury, other devices (Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, laptop) can get to the Internet without an issue. My wife's iPad mini (iOS 9) has the same problem as my iPad, though.

I'm a software engineer, so I know a little about how these things work. What seems to be happening is that iOS tries to see if it can reach the Internet by attempting to reach a specific known site, probably an Apple site. If it can't for whatever reason within a certain amount of time, it logs a failure and assumes it cannot connect to anything. If this is the case, the only solution is on Apple's side.

Some additional information, after talking to a network admin friend of mine: it looks like the routing tables in the iPad are whacky.

When it loses connection to the Internet, it can still get to nodes on the LAN on he same subnet (e.g., 192.168.0.1 can be accessed from an iPad at 192.168.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0/8). My router, however, has an additional web server at 192.168.100.1 for other purposes. When the iPad loses connection, it cannot get to that IP address, as it's outside the subnet. Of course, that seems to encourage routing to figure itself out, and a refresh of the page resolves everything.

This doesn't seem to be isolated to iOS 11; my iPad 4 running 10.3.3 and my wife's iPad Mini running the last version of iOS 9 (sorry, don't have the device handy to get the precise number) show the exact same problem.

I have no delusions that Apple will care enough to fix this back in the old OS versions, or even release a tool that would manage to correct the problem once, but that seems to be what's needed.

Oh, this would also explain why a factory reset would solve the problem, as that would clear the garbage in the routing tables.

Hey jpcashdog,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iPad Pro keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi. It's important to make sure that you can connect to Wi-Fi without any issues, so I'll be happy to help assist you with this.

It looks like you've already tried the steps that I recommend for this Wi-Fi issue in this support article: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network .

Since you're still having this issue, I suggest a reinstall of iOS.

First, use this article to make sure that you have a backup of your iPhone: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Then, use this article to reinstall iOS: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Note: This article is intended to be for a different issue but following steps 1-5 will help you reinstall iOS without erasing data.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards.
