iOS 11 podcast autoplay

Anyone figured out a way around Apple ditching podcast autoplay/play next in ios11? I’ll listen to multiple episodes on a run and found out the hard way this feature was jettisoned after updating my phone. I know there’s a “play next” feature, but can’t find a way to view what is scheduled to play next. It’s annoying to have to go through several screens to set it up and have no way to back track and see what was entered. Why would Apple get rid of such a simple interface for this?

On the Station Screen click edit in the upper right corner. You’ll then see the Sort Order and Settings buttons for the Station (left image below). Choose ‘oldest to newest’ or the reverse. That will also set the play order in the Stations Settings Screen. Then click the play button for the top episode and the entire station list will play before stopping.

If you play an episode from the Listen Niw Page it does not automatically move to the next ep. it seems auto play only works among the episodes within a Station.

SOLVED: Go to Library, press edit, choose new station. Give unique name.

Now create a playlist (station) that plays newest to oldest ,or oldest to newest, so anything but manual.

Add all the podcast you want to continously play (simply use Add ALL) DONE

From now on use that staion to play (behaves same as old ios 10 app, just plays what ever came in last first.

PS no idea why nobody from apple botherred to explain this.
and station fuction has nothing to do with and does not need itunes, it is a podcast app feature

Everyone keeps offering up this solution, it's not a solution. I created five 'stations' and still, none of the play episodes continuously, no matter which order is chosen. It sounded promising, it felt good to have a work around but in the end, it doesn't work. OR, I should say, it doesn't work on my iPod Touch. Maybe that's only a work around for phones. I dunno, this iPod Touch is only a month old, latest/greatest piece of crap Apple makes. It's back to Samsung for me. Never understood all the Apple devotion anyway, kinda cult like, better off without the Kool-Aid.

Unfortunately that is not how it looks on my phone. In that case things would have been soo much easier. The options are less comprehensive and make very little sense. I listen to podcasts almost 24/7 and see myself as a person with at least a normal intellect, but for the love of god - the new interface gives me even more gray hair... Oh, btw, can someone tell me why an episode stops when I recieve a mess?

Thank you for that solution, however, that is not the way I listen to podcasts and I listen throughout the day and evening. I als have tried the solution Offered by several others and they didn’t work. Infact, I lost all episodes of one podcast that I was trying from one suggestion. This is more than a new learning situatio...it is a poorly planned program.

Thank you for your in depth answer to my question. You have explained how to use the new app in very clear language. My problem with it is I just do not have the time or desire to go through all those steps. I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts and this feels like a high school exercise in a computer lab class. I am very disappointed! I am searching for another app to use until Apple makes this one user friendly. Again, newer is not better.

Agreed with everyone here. This is an absolutely awful experience now. Both my wife and I are confused and infuriated that they would remove such a fundamental and essential feature of the Podcast app. It seems Apple really doesn’t understand the most common way that how their customers consume this content. Baffling!

Bring auto play back. Like now!

I agree. A total stuff up by Apple. Having to pull over to the side of the road every time I want to move to the next podcast in a series that I am listening to, and go through a series of clicks, is just annoying, and a waste of time. Or not possible if you are on a freeway or major road at peak hour. And now of course, the controls on the steering wheel in my car can't advance you to the next podcast, or take you back to the start of the current one. So they are now non-functional.

How can they delete a major convenience, and safety, aspect of the app just to make it a bit more like its music app. It's rubbish. Am going to move over to a new podcast manager.

Hi Cyber. What do you mean, "Station settings"? Where, what is this? I've searched Podcasts from top to bottom and I don't have that screen, though I have Stations on my MacBook in iTunes. Really hating this, I accidentally upgraded to IOS 11 on my iPhone 6 (it was late at night and I hit the update by accident) and sourly regret it. Thanks in advance.

I was hoping that by reading these replies that someone had a solution. Doesn't look like it. I don't like not being able to plat my podcasts continuously. What happened???? And why has Apple not done something about this by now? there are so many people complaining, you'd think Apple would have taken notice.

I'm going to a 3rd party app so i can listen to all my shows. It's called PodCruncher, but I had to pay for it. Not cool, Apple.

Incredibly frustrating that the last update completely ruined my podcast listening experience, which was one of the features I liked most about having an IPhone. This change took something that was highly usable and turned it into a nearly unusable item. I previously listened to 6+ podcasts a day and have listened to 2-3 in total since upgrading in early October. The lost functionality of auto play and the changes to sort are terrible. Previously I could start at the top of my list and auto play the newest podcast to the next until it was complete or I chose to stop. The required actions now are dangerous especially when driving a car. Previously I would start my podcast before driving and it would keep playing until I arrived at my destination. Until resolved I will need to unsubscribe to all podcasts and not reopen the application. This will be a big reason to consider another platform for my next phone after being an iPhone user since the first publicly released model. I hope this is not a sign to come for future changes. Please resolve so that I can enjoy my iPhone and IPad experience again.
