iOS 11 podcast autoplay

Anyone figured out a way around Apple ditching podcast autoplay/play next in ios11? I’ll listen to multiple episodes on a run and found out the hard way this feature was jettisoned after updating my phone. I know there’s a “play next” feature, but can’t find a way to view what is scheduled to play next. It’s annoying to have to go through several screens to set it up and have no way to back track and see what was entered. Why would Apple get rid of such a simple interface for this?

On the Station Screen click edit in the upper right corner. You’ll then see the Sort Order and Settings buttons for the Station (left image below). Choose ‘oldest to newest’ or the reverse. That will also set the play order in the Stations Settings Screen. Then click the play button for the top episode and the entire station list will play before stopping.

If you play an episode from the Listen Niw Page it does not automatically move to the next ep. it seems auto play only works among the episodes within a Station.

I TOTALLY agree and get sick and tired of Apple’s crap. It’s like they can’t just leave well enough alone. There is no way this was a feature request as they always pawn it off on the consumer saying they wanted it. Apple...leave it alone you morons! What if I have 100 podcasts and only want to listen to the last 5 in order Or last 25? So do I have to start from 100 then go back or I have to set them all up in queue Or create a playlist? *** Apple you idiots?!?

Apple has made their Podcast app way more complicated than it needs to be. So after hours of trial and error and reading this site I was able to get this app to auto play episodes again. HOWEVER it only seems to work when it is just my ipod playing the podcasts. Once I link my ipod to my USB in the car, so it will play through my car speakers, the episodes no longer autoplay. Very frustrating since I almost exclusively listen to my podcasts while I am driving. Even if I select another episode and click "play next" it still does not auto-play it when hooked up to my car. I can't be messing around with my ipod while I am driving so until this is fixed I guess it is time to find another podcast app. It was working perfectly fine before this update, why did Apple have to go and mess-up a perfectly good app??? Argh.

Apple podcast is awful right now and I don’t get why the heck they haven’t done anything about it.

I checked ou the overcast app from start I’m not really a big fan because you podcasts are gonna adds, and if you don’t want the adds you will have to pay. So that’s my opinion but besides that it has some good reviews for use

Note also that the payment appears to be a yearly subscription, not a one-off.

And as usual, its promotional approach leaves a lot to be desired; the usual glitzy, showy fandango, but no mention of how easy it is (or indeed whether it's possible to) subscribe to a Podcast Feed URL that is not listed in their display.

Oh! and the "best bit" - they tell us it's designed for the iPhone, iPad and even carplay, but no specific mention of the humble iPod Touch. I could always assume I guess.

Hummm okay I see what you have posted and see where the option is to upgrade to premium on my account. I am currently using the free version and I don’t notice any ads or if there are ads they are not bothersome enough to make me upgrade (as obviously I can’t even recall them lol). All I can say is that I like Overcast, but I haven’t tried anything else other than Apple podcast.

Dude, I finally give overcast a try and I like it the add thing is just at the bottom of the screen, it does not even bother me. So what I’m saying ? ..... I’m saying bye bye Apple podcast!!! I already deleted it. I was sick of it.

So far so good with overcast

Apple get your sh** together.

I don’t see why they’re saying once you get used to it then it’s fine. It shouldn’t be like that, I got plenty of other stuff that gets my time already, no need to add Apple podcast to learn.

I will tell you what is happening. That is due to the Tech bubble that is taking place at the moment. Podcasts are not profitable so the market will steer new customers away from it. Notice also the 'lookup' function has become messy and lousy too.
So instead of helping customers corporations will tend to favour profit and Apple is no different.

That is especially true in Apple's case because it is heavily capitalised at the moment and innovation in functionality has not happened in recent years. I wonder if all that capital could instead be used for the development of electric car and autonomous drive instead, but guess what with the rise of index funds capital will find its way to the most valuable companies, not necessarily the most innovative.

So to conclude I have updated to IOS 11 to find out that iOS has lost its functionality due to corporate greediness, then I luckily managed to roll back to iOS 10. I found out that iOS 10 has all the functions I need at the moment and I keep deferring iOS updates on a weekly basis. I am also considering the option to moving to other service providers.
Hope this helps.

It took a while but I found the solution:

1: Go to this website and follow the instructions for starting a new "Station".

https://www.iphonelife.com/blog/31936/tip-day-how-organize-podcasts-stations

2: Create a New Station. I called mine "The way I like it"

3: Set it to play Newest to Oldest.

4: Leave Group by Podcast "off".

5: Include, I did the last 3 but you can do most recent 2. If you select most recent it will not pull any episodes in.

6: I chose Media type "Audio".

7: Unplayed Only is turned on.

8: Choose Podcasts, I chose all.

9: Go back to "Library".

10: Select the station you created and enjoy what was so easy before.

If your episodes did not populate then close the app and reopen it.

Now go to "Library" instead of "Listen Now" and open your new station.

Apple, I'm not a computer person and have used your products since the Mac SE30. I'm super disappointed that you made this so difficult. I no longer update to your new OS software until I'm forced to and am constantly disappointed by the decisions you have made for me. When you make changes, make sure we have the choice to keep things as they were. That's all many of us are asking for.

Finally, a solution to what's been plaguing me since the iOS 11 podcast app "update". This is exactly what I was looking for and stumbled across it while on hold with Apple technical support who were also trying to find an answer to this question for me. When she came back to the line I gave her the solution. A tip of the hat to you cyberbiker. THANK-YOU!
