iOS 11 podcast autoplay

Anyone figured out a way around Apple ditching podcast autoplay/play next in ios11? I’ll listen to multiple episodes on a run and found out the hard way this feature was jettisoned after updating my phone. I know there’s a “play next” feature, but can’t find a way to view what is scheduled to play next. It’s annoying to have to go through several screens to set it up and have no way to back track and see what was entered. Why would Apple get rid of such a simple interface for this?

This flummoxed me, too. When you're looking at the episode that is currently playing--the Now Playing screen, though it's not labeled as such--keep swiping up to beneath the Episode Notes and you'll see (editable) Up Next.

I’ve been an Apple user, exclusively, for 20 years. Since Jobs died, Apple has not found another real-world, gut checking failsafe to replace him. It seems irrelevant to decision makers at Apple that a UI/UX element is either useful/insightful or cumbersome/extraneous. Changes are made to the OS for the sake of change itself.

Of course, coders, developers, marketing teams, and executives are not going to have enough work to keep their jobs if they are not creating issues for them to fix in the next release, or releasing updates that make older models lose functionality and run more slowly. But at this point, planned obsolescence is developing into a cancer in the Apple ecosystem. Complaining on tech review sites or in Apple forums is increasingly feeling like yelling into the void. I’ve resigned myself to the realization that the only way, as a consumer, I can hope to effect positive change in the culture at Apple is to vote with my feet. My next purchase is going to be an Android phone.

In the next release, you won’t be able to enable auto-play on podcasts unless you group “stations” into “networks.” I know it sounds cumbersome, but you’ll really have to give it a serious try before judging this feature, let alone the podcast app as a whole, on the merits of the interface alone. Once you learn the new layers they’ve added to the decision tree, I think many will become happy with the changes.

Of course, they’ll fix the “networks” feature in a future update, but then require you to include the new cover sheet with your TPS report before you can listen to your podcasts. Just wait, it’ll be announced at the next Keynote.

I TOTALLY agree and get sick and tired of Apple’s crap. It’s like they can’t just leave well enough alone. There is no way this was a feature request as they always pawn it off on the consumer saying they wanted it. Apple...leave it alone you morons! What if I have 100 podcasts and only want to listen to the last 5 in order Or last 25? So do I have to start from 100 then go back or I have to set them all up in queue Or create a playlist? *** Apple you idiots?!?

Apple has made their Podcast app way more complicated than it needs to be. So after hours of trial and error and reading this site I was able to get this app to auto play episodes again. HOWEVER it only seems to work when it is just my ipod playing the podcasts. Once I link my ipod to my USB in the car, so it will play through my car speakers, the episodes no longer autoplay. Very frustrating since I almost exclusively listen to my podcasts while I am driving. Even if I select another episode and click "play next" it still does not auto-play it when hooked up to my car. I can't be messing around with my ipod while I am driving so until this is fixed I guess it is time to find another podcast app. It was working perfectly fine before this update, why did Apple have to go and mess-up a perfectly good app??? Argh.

Hummm okay I see what you have posted and see where the option is to upgrade to premium on my account. I am currently using the free version and I don’t notice any ads or if there are ads they are not bothersome enough to make me upgrade (as obviously I can’t even recall them lol). All I can say is that I like Overcast, but I haven’t tried anything else other than Apple podcast.

Finally, a solution to what's been plaguing me since the iOS 11 podcast app "update". This is exactly what I was looking for and stumbled across it while on hold with Apple technical support who were also trying to find an answer to this question for me. When she came back to the line I gave her the solution. A tip of the hat to you cyberbiker. THANK-YOU!
