I had the same issue after I wiped the drive on my MacBook Pro. When you wiped the drive you selected the wrong format. All you need to do is simply go to disk utilities and erase the drive again, but this time select APFS (Encrypted) rather than just APFS. You may now click Reinstall macOS High Sierra. Side note, make sure you have internet connection in your status bar.
thanks so much! works like magic!
The date fix worked!! Thank you! You are a lifesaver!! 😎
Same thing happened to me. But later I realized that my Mac was not connect to the internet. Check the right upper corner, internet status. After reconnecting to the internet, reinstall started.
Check to see if you have wifi connection. You have probably deleted the wifi passwords :-)
Almost a year later and this still helped me! Thanks a lot mate!!
currently running the old version and want to upgrade macOS Hight Sierra.
No, this happens even when the image is already downloaded.
Software has often had to "phone home" to be verified upon reinstall. Just be glad we've gone beyond the days of special dongles.
Hi, this also happened to me after erasing the Mac disk. Problem was - the Mac no longer recognised the wifi.
Solution - make sure you're connected to the internet.
Don't use wireless - connect using an ethernet cable.
Thanks so much
This resolved it for me: https://gist.github.com/levlaz/16b63384bd5e1bee3593be0d91aedbd7
That solution has already been posted in this thread, multiple times. But just posted, without resorting to a link to a long thread.
We had the same message simply because we did not have an internet connection at the time - which seems like something that could be noted in the error eg 'check you have internet connection'
Connect to the wifi or cable first. Simple.
