ATV 4K Aerial Screensavers

The method I posted seems to initiate some sort of "reset" for the screensaver downloads.

It can take up to a few weeks to see multiple scenes, much less the full complement, but it WILL repopulate eventually.

Be sure to set the download to Daily to get the max.

It took over 2 weeks to get past the desert on one 4K ATV and then I got 4, 5, and more in the following weeks.

The scenes seem to be downloaded in much the same manner as an OTA firmware update rollout for smart tv's. The new scenes seem to be rolled out to certain IP addresses in blocks. I don't know that for certain - it's just the way it appears.

Btw, my settings are:

ATV 4K 64GB

Screensaver: Aerial.

Download New Video: Daily

Start After: 5 min

Show During Music & Podcasts: Yes

Sleep After: 1 hour

Resolution: 2160p UHD - 30Hz (or 50 Hz) YCbCr 4:4:4

And the fix definitely takes a few weeks to populate multiple scenes past The Desert.

I have always had mine set to download daily. Mine took about a week and a half to get 8 of the screensavers. But as someone mentioned that because the one in Greenland isn't 4k is why it has never shown up. I had the 4th gen Apple TV and it had downloaded all the screensavers. I really miss them especially the ones in China and Hawaii. I hope Apple converts all of them to 4k at some point.

Reading your fix - as written - it appears that you only ended up with one, single, new scene in addition to the default.

The solution I’ve been using successfully populates *all* the available Aerial scenes (subject to resolution settings), just not at once .... as it takes days, up to 3 weeks to "catch up" and populate with all the scenes that should have been downloaded according to the schedule you selected and the other factors that affect rollout (there are at least 55 total if you count the unique scenes in the code).

So, did you mean that if you repeated the procedure you posted (switching from HDR to non-HDR), the Aerial App suddenly downloaded 1 new scene on top of the default per resolution change, ending up with a TOTAL of 55 scenes if you did this 55 times in a row?

Because trying the method you posted, this is all that happens:

1. The default scene is sometimes reset/replaced by a scene with different resolution parameters/restrictions.

2. The default scene changes to a different scene, but no additional downloads occur at that time, ending up with multiple scenes.

3. The Aerial App still only has one scene.

It needs to have more than 3 scenes to show that the automatic download feature is working properly.

Can you clarify?

I got all of them playing as soon as I switched back. I did not have to repeat the process. If it sounded like that from my post, that certainly wasn’t the intention. It’s working well for me now - rotating through all where before it was locked on one ( the desert ). I’m happy it’s working now so I don’t have any plans to change things up post-facto. GL 👍-1F3FB;

I had reset to see if anything changed. It took about 2 weeks but got all 8 screensavers back but I am told there are 9 that were converted to 4k and no others will play? Maybe it's only 8 because I got the same ones back. I hope Apple updates the rest before long to 4k some of the ones I have now I don't really like. Especially LA EX and the LA freeway ones, kinda ugly.

It’s because there are (relatively) few flyover screensavers mastered in 4K HDR. Until such time there are more, the day/night functionality seems to be disabled. They recently added five more (around a month or so ago) bringing the total to 14 scenes in 4K HDR. This is relatively paltry in comparison to the 40+ SDR one’s available. Hopefully we get more soon!

I have the 64 gig and I also have daily downloads but still see the same 3 or 4.. AWAYS Sahara and that airport! Very very frustrated! I also see new one! I got excited when Hong Kong popped up yesterday but then it was right back to Sahara and Airport...they got rid of Dubai which I liked and kept Sahara and the ****** airport!

It’s our home theater, so please, Apple, relinquish control over what we are allowed to see. For instance, after nearly a year with Apple TV 4K it’s apparent that image of Simpsons-yellow sand dunes will never go away. Will this lingering flyover of rancid meringue forever continue to destroy the rotating gallery’s artistic merit? Will we never enjoy freedom of choice?

Are you running your Apple TV in 4K HDR?

It does, actually, as only 9 of the flyover screensavers are mastered in 4K HDR. Therefore, only those 9 are downloaded when the device is in that configuration.

Have you tried the fix I posted above? I have used it on 4 Apple TV 4 Gen &4K models and it has worked every time.

No. I did not post that method.

Please look above at the post that matches MY User Name & follow the fix. It will take up to 2 weeks but it works.

Ah I understand that is too bad. I really miss all the great ones I had on my 4th gen Apple TV.
