Yes I do. Ok then this tells me it must be my cell provider who has issues with the way the devices are Communicating on their network. Not a hardware issue. Who is your provider. I will tell mine so maybe they can tweak their network like your cell provider.
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are not able to send text messages from your Apple Watch Series 3, take a look at the troubleshooting steps outlined in the resource below:
Read and reply to messages with your Apple Watch
Get help if you can't send or receive messages
After each step, try to send or receive a message again:
- See if you can send and receive messages on your iPhone.
- Make sure that your Apple Watch can connect to your iPhone or Wi-Fi.
- If you have Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) and it's connected to a cellular network, you can check the signal strength in Control Center. To send and receive SMS or MMS, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, but it doesn't need to be nearby.
- Make sure that you signed in with your Apple ID on your iPhone and Apple Watch. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, tap the My Watch tab, then tap General > Apple ID.
- If you see
on your watch, turn off Do Not Disturb.
- Check the person's phone number or Apple ID to make sure that it's correct.
- Sign out of iMessage on your iPhone. If you're signed in with your Apple ID, tap it, then tap Sign Out.
- Turn iMessage off on your iPhone, then turn it back on again.
- Sign back in to iMessage on your iPhone.
- Restart your Apple Watch and iPhone.
- Unpair your Apple Watch, then pair it again.
Take care.
Look for the Apple Watch guide on iBooks, because it helps a lot with using the watch. I've had a problem with the watch not sending texts (SMS) when my iPhone battery is dead. I wanted to know if this was a user error issue, so I read about the topic in the guide. Basically, I learned that I need to switch by scrolling up from the watch face and see what connection I have. If I'm using wifi, the clam shape wave will be blue and the wifi network is listed at the top. Then I'm not using cellular. The message I sent using just wifi with phone off went out slower and it took longer to receive a response. If I turn off wifi, the cellular comes on and then messages are much faster. I assume that this change from wifi to cellular happens automatically when I leave wifi zone. SO, if you're having problems, read the guide and do some experiments to find out what happens based on what connection you are using.
To an android user? We’re u away from your phone and wifi? Did the android user reply back while still away from your phone and wifi?
It depends on your iwatch 3 model if u have the iwatch 3gps+ cellular that means it works without your iphonw but you may have to get a separate plan for it maybe you have the iwatch 3 gps only in that case it will need an iphone always with you.
If you have LTE enabled on your series 3 Apple Watch, you can send text messages when you are out of range of your phone rather it is on or not, It uses number sync and doesn’t require your Phone.
yes and it did work. do you have sms message on?
Are you saying that if I leave my iPhone at home, and its out of batteries, or off, then my Apple Watch Series 3 isn't going to be able to send or receive messages? That's crazy. I bought the Apple Watch Series 3 so I wouldn't have to worry about whether my iPhone was with me or even powered up. This is a design fault. I assumed, as would most buyers, that if the Series 3 watch can make mobile calls, it can send mobile messages as well. Please tell me this is going to be fixed with a software update.
After you tested things away from your iPhone you should turn wifi and Bluetooth back on in both devices. Good luck - I know this is frustrating. It consumed me for days. Top tier tech support at Verizon finally got me far enough to get it fixed.
The question, can you receive the SMS when you are near your iphone
Do you have another phone number listed for apple watch? I see a number listed under device info for my apple watch.
The problem is we leave our phone accidentally. So my WiFi is on and that leaves me with no text ability. Apple needs to fix this problem. I will not get another.
PREACH!! I assumed I would be able to text as well. Noooope. And took 15 times calling in and going to AT&T to try to fix the problem for anyone to tell me that you couldn’t text, even tho I’ve specifically asked before. Ridiculous.
I have the same problems after purchasing the cellular watch here in Auston the basis of full messaging functionality when my iPhone is. not in range.
This is misleading advertising by Apple and a return for refund should be offered.
Add me to the list of frustrated Apple Watch 3 owners. I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that I'd be able to text and call with my iPhone off. This is critical because my battery lasts about 2 hours and is often off. I can send and receive calls, but under no circumstances can I text. It's really frustrating because I can send and receive texts on my computer and iPad, so I do not understand why I can do so on my watch. It seems like it ought to more than my iPad, not less.
Thought this was only me! Ive been to T-Mobile multiple times and they can't seem to help. Spoken to apple multiple times and no help. I was under the impression I could text on my watch when on cellular, with my phone far away. Only calls work and notifications for apps. SO FRUSTRATED!
Can’t send text messages on Apple Watch 3 when iPhone is not near.
