Programming Custom Word Pronunciations in Speech Preference Settings

So I have a question in regards to programming pronunciations to speech settings.

The one word that really gets me that Siri/VoiceOver can't pronounce right is "Mr." which should be "mister" but it says? "M R" (two separate letters).

I type in the original word and then the replacement phrase and even input the way it should be dictated. Then I press play to confirm and it should be save, correct? But when I try the word out, instead of "mister" it still says "M R"

I know how to do it correctly because I also tried two other words (frappuccino and Nguyen, two other words I find Siri/Voiceover to pronounce wrong) and I successfully saved it and it reads it out as what I asked it to say.

So I'm puzzled as to why, no matter how many times I retry and save it, the word "Mr." never comes out as "mister" but "M R".

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I was able to get the Tessa voice to pronounce Mr. as mister by doing the following:

Settings> General > Accessibility > VoiceOver> Speech. When you get to speech, make sure Tessa is selected. Then tap pronunciations, tap add to add a pronunciation. For Phrase type M R. For substitution type mister spelled out. Then go down to languages and select the following languages: English (Australia), English (Ireland), English (South Africa), English (UK), English (US). Then use the back button to go back to the replacement screen. Languages should now say multiple. Then tap voices. Make sure the only voice selected is Tessa. Keep ignore case and apply to all apps on.

If you are using a different voice than Tessa, still see if the above steps help.

What voice are you using? I use Alex and am not having this problem. I also tried with Samantha Enhanced (US), Siri Female and Male both US and UK, Daniel UK, and Tessa (South Africa). The only one that pronounced Mr. as M R instead of mister was Tessa. I am seeing the same behavior with Tessa as you describe though.
