Anyone else is having problem with time machine on high sierra. I am backing up on a new disk but it stops moving after 20.18 GB. It has been stuck there for 5 hours. Right now it says 20.20 GB. Repeated it 3 times but getting same results.
MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13)
mbp 2016 high sierra
time capsule 3tb (airport still awesome after all these years)
time machine backups fail --last successful backup 11/14
using superduper for clone now

I have the same problem since updated to High Sierra. Apple support is trying to fix the issue. They have tried several ways but haven't been able to solve it so far. This is really annoying. I really get concern every time Apple releases a new version and/or update.
Thank you.....thank you.....thank you for your answer. I recently installed Kapersky but had no idea it would hinder my TimeMachine backup. It was absolutely driving me crazy. Read your answer, turned off Kapersky and backed up without a problem. Soooo appreciative.
Talked to apple bug report. They diagnosed that my antivirus (Kaspersky Internet security 18.0.1.35) was slowing it down. I turned it down and backups work fine.
I have exactly the same Problem since latest update.
Can not get it to work proper, Stops after certain time.

Well I reported bug to apple. They asked for sysdiagnose of system and ultimately said if it stucks again then take a sysdiagnose while its stuck and post again.
Are you leaving the computer long enough for it to go to sleep? If so, turning that off worked for me (see above).
Thanks - yes had changed power settings so that it never went to sleep - but no good. 😟
Backup worked when I checked to "Back up automatically" as a previous user posted.
Unfortunately it didn't help my case. But thanks for posting it anyways! It's hard to find a solution for my problem
The problem is steve job's is gone. Apple seems to be having much more problems then it use to. You think they would of tested the backup facility.

Update: subsequent backups are still hanging. This is very frustrating!
I'll try to exclude large directories and see what happens...
