Can't scrub movies in finder
I use to be able to select a movie and scrub through it in the finder pane but not since updating. I'm thinking it has something to do with the media keys not working either but that's a guess.

Yes, I can also confirm this is no longer working in High Sierra OS. Scrubbing Video in Finder using Column View is such a critical feature for me. (quick way to filter through 100's of motion detection security videos). For others that are confused or have questions on how this used to work, here is a quick video on this lost capability:

Yes, it has to be the right format. MKV files won't do it but if it plays in Quicklook you should be able to scrub it.
Apparently not in High Sierra. You can always let Apple know you would like the feature back.
They won't answer but if enough users mention it, they might consider it.
I don't actually know if it's been removed or it's a bug. Send them a note. 😎

Yes playing still works but I've always been able to scrub the movie with the mouse. Scrubbing is the process of moving quickly forward or backward through the movie with mouse control on a Mac.
Scrubbing where? Right over the movie icon in the Finder (in icon mode)? On the preview (in column mode)?
I can play a movie right from the preview in column mode (by pressing the little play button in the middle), but I cannot scrub as you say.

I can scrub a movie in QuickLook. I don't remember ever being able to scrub a movie in the preview pane of the Finder.
I've been using Mac's since then too! 😁 All the way back to the Lisa.
You're correct, the preview pane. I was doing it in Sierra, Mavericks, and so on and I doubt it was an add-on.
I can take a screen shot video on my mini tonight to show you which is running Sierra
Here is an article describing it: Scrubbing through videos using the preview pane is a fun little trick, too, allowing you to zip through videos so you can find that crucial or favorite scene without having to open each file in its own separate app window. Simply hover over the Finder preview and drag two fingers right or left to scrub forward or backward, respectively.
I only use one finger so that must be set in the mouse prefs
I had this question as well; thanks for posting this problem
I'm glad you posted because I've been trying to figure out whether it was an old plugin that I added long ago or some glitch in Mac OS. This was the only search result where I could confirm that others had noticed this problem and that it was not a plugin problem. It still works in QuickTime player — just not in Finder.
I submitted feedback to Apple. Hopefully, they fix it because it was extremely useful for me (and it looks like others as well).
Not just movies, but even documents like pdfs and others. The scroll bars show, but scrolling doesn't work anymore. If i click on the scroll bar and move it, scrolling works, but not using the trackpad or the mouse wheel.
Could this be touch bar related, i.e. you're supposed to use the touch bar instead of the touch pad? Can anyone without a touch bar on High Sierra check, whether the touch pad works for scrubbing? I don't see what good disabling the touch pad option should do, though.
It looks like apple either took it out or forgot to put it in because scrubbing videos with 2 fingers on the trackpad still works in quicktime and VLC that I've been able to test. I'm currently on 10.13 and hope they put it back in a future update.
