Photos crashing on people tab on High Sierra

I am having the same exact problem. My photo library is 40000 pictures and it’s seems that there’s is always some background activity happening. It program now with High Sierra crashes often when doing people. Also only 10% of my photos are now available to share through my 2nd Generation Apple TV. Seems like a step backwards.

Photos is a lost cause, they will not or cannot fix it,3 updates a security patch and it's still a piece of junk.

As I have said before, I have found 40-50% of new Macs in Apple store crashed with a simple test.

Stepping between photos is not making Photos crash for me, but I am getting crashes, when I select all photos at once and try to drag them to an album. Photos will crash, after it asks "Are you sure you want to add 45000 photos to the album?" and I confirm this.

I too have had a lot of problems. I originally used Aperture and loved it. I have about 10,000 photos. With the most recent update all my organization on it's own came apart. The program started combining people and renaming some. When I tried to delete a photo some times it would not work and the program crashed often. I reinstalled my basic library with the help of support. I accepted all organization, faces, editing, and dates put on scanned photos would be lost. As I have been trying to re organize and put names with faces on my new data baseI am already starting to see problems. There clearly is a problem with the new update.

I updated to macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 on 12/14/17. I have been editing photos since then and the editing function is much slower than it was. This morning, I tried to edit a group photo I had scanned into Photos before the update. It crashed immediately and continues to do so each time I try. I have every fix mentioned here but the same thing happens. I have since edited other scanned photos (objects, a document) without any problem. I don't know what to do now.

I have the same issues with Photos. I miss iPhoto, that worked. Who uses an iPad to edit a photograph anyway? I have a 27 iMac 5K, external 32 inch 4K display, 1 TB SSD, i7 4Gh, 32 GB ram. This is a software issue, not hardware.

Personally I think Apple has gone down hill without Steve Jobs. He was an innovator. Tim cook is not up to the task and the company just slipping and becoming less competitive. Yes I own stock and it is doing well, I worked for IBM in it's peak and then poor leadership got in. Too much interest in overpriced less capable phones.

Mine is iMac (retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017) Processor 3 GHz intel Core i5. Photo first crashed after updated to MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2 and while i am using corp and retouch. Since then, it crashes every time ,5-10 seconds after i start up Photo . Contact Apple support. No fix so far.

Photos crash High Sierra Imac . Crash occurs most of the time on certain "people " a few seconds after selecting Me too. Tried everything mentioned so far.

With the macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 Supplemental Update (Supplemental Update fixes an issue where using certain character sequences could cause apps to crash), so far I am not having the crashing problem anymore with Photos. I am able to go to the people tab and add faces with no problem.

Just updated to 10.13.4 from 10.13.3 in hopes that some stability might return to Apple > Mac > Photos > People > Crash problem . Worked once, but today's attempt produced the familiar brief moment of hopeful suspense followed by crash . I've just begun the "repair" library process again (sometimes it seems to work?) and I'll try again tomorrow when it's done. Argh

I have tested 3 new Macs, they all crash when Photos is used.

Since updating to high Sierra 10.13.1 last night photos is not working and I can't even force quit photos. Help

That is no good news, if a clean system is giving you this result!

My MBPrs are mid 2015 models, and I do not have this problem.

These all issues are part of a bigger problem with the GPU... It is not fixed in 10.13.1...

I tried this and it worked (so far)

1. Hold down Option-Command while you open Photos.
2. In the dialog that appears, click Repair to start the repair process.
