Can dock be hidden IOs 11

I've been looking and can't find where I can get rid of the dock at the bottom of the Ipad in IOs 11? I figured out how to get rid of apps, but not the whole thing. It might be nice, but it's not very hard for me to go back to the screen and go to another app...so I don't see the value in having it up. Or if you can't get rid of it, can you at least make it transparent?

Its not a copy, its just a shortcut to recently used Apps and there's no real reason to want to get rid of them. They'll change on their own as you use other apps.

You can go to Settings->General->Multi-Tasking & Dock->Show Suggested and Recent Apps and turn it off if you want to though.

Beyond that, the dock has always been there, and has never been completely transparent.

It's more opaque if you have Settings->General->Accessibility->Increase Contrast->Reduce Transparency turned on, otherwise its slightly translucent. But in all versions its been there.

The only difference is now its not docked to the bottom of the screen, and gets rounded corners.

Unfortunately you cannot get rid of the dock within apps.

However, unless you are swiping from very close to the bottom edge of the screen, the dock should not be showing up.

I need to basically put my finger almost outside the edge of the screen to get it to come up when in an app. Swiping from a little higher up should not bring it up.

I've hated the home screen dock bar since my first iPad 2. Just got a 9.7" 2017 and am still hating it. I'm a photographer and use my own photos for home and lock, and that blurry, mostly opaque bar obliterates a sixth of every composition, the entire foreground. It's an eyesore on my screen. The only manipulation allowed is to make it even more opaque, gray, uglier. I recommend/am pleading for a slider in the setting that does the opposite, taking it from opaque to completely transparent. And please allow us users to set our graphic visibility our way? The movement feature is kind of cool, but I'd rather see more of my compositions. As it is, the system decides what I see, and the system's judgement is painful to view if the user is an artist/photographer. I cringe at what is being done to my art. )-: And I do get it about how to use the bar. It's the aesthetics, not the practicality of it that I object to.

Surely it can be made possible to disable it showing up when using an app or let it swipe in from the left instead of the bottom? I'm happy with it on the home screen but the constant revealing of this dock by errant swipes is now ruining my enjoyment of using my iPad. You cannot seriously think everyone likes this feature? Give us some more options in the settings to disable it!! Please!

Nice??! Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but the new dock in IOS 11 on iPad is so unbelievably ugly, I can scarcely believe that Apple have designed and included it! And what is the point of it in any case, since it is easy enough to press the home button twice to get back to the home screen and see all the apps. Such a small thing in some ways, but really ruining my experience!

It’s the SAME DOCK that has ALWAYS existed since iOS 7!

What is everyone’s issues with the new iOS 11 Dock?

It’s just not anchored to the bottom of the screen any longer! It slightly floats above the bottom of the screen, now!

It holds more apps and folders of apps than the old Dock did!

Instead of 6 app/folder locations, the new Dock holds 15 app/folder locations.

That’s 2-1/2 time more room for commonly used apps and to add more folders of apps!

It’s a better Dock!

You can pick individual apps to use in Slide Over or Split View instead of constantly scrolling through a long list of apps, to pick the right app to multitasking with another app, the way you used to do with multitasking in iOS 9 and 10!

I am guessing that you never used the iOS Dock in ways it has always been designed to be used for?

The new Dock “look” is taken right from the look of the Dock in OS X/macOS.

It’s a very similar look.

A way of making both iOS and macOS look more similar.

As a matter of fact the “new” iOS 11 Dock look is present in iOS 10, when you use an external Bluetooth keyboard and use Comnand-tab key combo to scroll through active iOS apps!

It’s the exact same Dock design.

The new Dock ISN’T going away any time soon.

Better get used to it!

How is this Dock any different from the previous Dock of the last 4-5 years>

It’s not!

It’s the same height as the old Dock!

It just floats now and isn't permanently anchored to the bottom of the screen, any longer.

It works EXACTLY the same as the previous Dock did, but holds even more apps and is more integrated with iOS multitasking features.

You are not the only one I will also fight against this insensitivity. Recently I changed the wallpaper to some colourful image and emptied the dock of all apps. What was left was an ugly grey rectangle like some strip of paint or a row of mortar. It is like a wall under your window. I guess so much for screen estate could pay. I come from windows phones and grew very attached to -exactly- windows. I wish they will offer the transparency or ability to remove it eventually. 2027 their 20th anniversary or so.

I speak of the phone not the pad though

The Dock has been with us since iOS 7 which is now going on 5 years.

Not going to go away any time soon.

And this newer variation actualy mimics EXACTLY how the Dock looks AND works in macOS/OS X.

I have no clue why all of this hate for a very convenient feature the Dock has provided for the last 5 years.

Just use it as it was meant to be used.

Apple is NOT going to change how the Dock looks and works for a very small minority of users who refuse to use this feature as it was intended to be used.

I understand some of the reasons for its existence on tablets but I see no use for it on phone. At the very least provide transparency for it. Do it as a courtesy. You take away from my enjoyment of the screen. Does Apple really think the user would not know anymore that the bottom row of icons constitutes a Dock and that is nothing more but a row of icons?
