How To Create This Effect?

Im just wondering how to create a vocal effect like these songs.
I've tried the thing in cut, were you click "Keep on Key" or something and its half techno. I want the effect in Garageband.

The effect can be found in bands such as Daft Punk?
Thanks Guys!

Heh heh, yea, I used one of those tweeter drivers minus the horn. Stuck a tube on that, strapped the tube to my mic stand where it ended at the mic. Not quite the same as a vocoder, however. The vocoder is what you hear, for example, at the beginning and end of the Disney Electrical Parade music. I'm sure there are other tunes, but I do not listen to such music anymore.

If you have a copy of "The Reluctant Dragon" - A Disny movie released just before WWII to raise some cash - they show a vocoder effect being made.

In the movie Robert Benchley sees them making the sound effects for a train cartoon. He is shown a lady using what looks like headphones over her vocal cords to make the train whistle say "All Aboard! Let's Go!", so it is a pretty old idea.

"Why do you need midi?"

Schneb mentioned an AU for GB that creates vocoding effects. To do vocoding in software, you need to run an audio file through MIDI so the MIDI events will be what change the tone, shape, pitch, etc of the original file.

I love the old talk boxes and the like, but new software can do things that haven't even been thought of yet. For instance, Cher's believe. So I was hoping that Schneb's afore mentioned AU was capable of something.
