how do you know if you’ve been blocked?

If you are not RECEIVING messages then maybe you have blocked them !!

Check if you have accidentally blocked that contact. Also make sure their contact entry does not have Do-Not-Disturb set.

You don’t and can’t know.

Note also that if someone blocked you, they will not receive your messages, but they can still send you messages.
