(High Sierra) Dock Icons get missing at all the time

Well, your solution didn't work, since this didn't happen after an update, hence the alternative solution I proposed.

Well, what works, works! Fulstop! 🙂 The matter is: unfortunately form me, as a technichan; I still dont' have an answer to the cause of that problem. Thanks anyway.

Just click on your background and on the top go to the tab "Go" and while it's showing press Option. Another folder will appear called "Library". Just click on it and it opens.

First go to disk-utility, choose first aid and run the check.

Second go to SystemSettings - User and groups, delete everything in Loginobjects!

Restart your mac pressing shift and then a normal restart again.

Now your problem is hopefully fixed.

actually, i tried on another mac with macOS 10.13.2 my suggestion of removing an app from the dock and then adding it back and it didn't work. when i removed and tried to re-add an app with a missing icon from the dock, it came back with the missing icon. i noticed that a lot of the app icons in Finder in the Applications folder also had the same missing app icon. i then deleted the dock plist file and also installed the macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 Supplemental Update and then restarted; after the reset, all the dock icons were ok again. i'm not sure if deleting the dock plist file or installing the Supplemental Update and restarting is what fixed it (i should have tried one at a time). simplest and cleanest thing to try is to install the Supplemental Update and restart. hopefully that's all that was necessary.

This worked automagically for me as well.

• Restart in Safe Mode (hold down the "s" key while restarting)
• Login to your account
• Restart normally

If you go to finder you'll see a Menu header for "Go"

Click "Go" to open that menu dropdown and then hold down Option and you'll see the Library option appear
