Lag and bug issues with pencil & iOS 11

Hi,

I am facing the same terrible issue with mu ipad pro 12.9!
I think if you try to put some piece of cloth or thicker paper maybe between your palm and screen without scratching it of course, you might feel huge improvement when using the apple pencil.

In any case this is a custom solution and I prefer Apple to finally solve the problem.
Anyone tried downgrading from 11.0.3 to 10.3.3????
All these problems started after I upgraded to ios 11!

Also, Apple has never, EVER supported nor has provisions or procedures for reverting/downgrading to any prior or earlier version of iOS.

In, addition, Apple stopped signing on iOS 10.3.3 approx. 2 weeks, ago.

So, attempting an iOS downgrade is no longer possible.

I chatted with the Apple support recently and they were very supportive. They got my diagnostics file, and video of the problem I have. I also told them about this thread where others are having the same issue. Apple engineers are looking into this problem and will call me in a few days.

Thank you, thank you, MichelPM! I've been struggling with this issue all afternoon. Your suggestion to turn off Accessibility/Zoom fixed the problem. At 11:30pm, I can finally start the work I've been trying to do all afternoon!!

This was determined by another Poster in another Apple Pencil issue post.

I have the same problem. first ipqd pro after update the pencil lags. I all apps.

Tried hard reset

Just bought a new pencil and turn the Bluetooth and updated my bluetooh. Only have my car and the pencil. Does work even in notes....

I don’t know about you, but I do lots of line work and hatching with pencil. When you draw a lot of small lines it is easy to see how the rendering lags behind the tip, no matter the zoom setting. So either it is there and you don’t notice, or there are 2 separate issues being brought as one in this thread. Someone already had mention 10 seconds freeze in procreate 4, this has NOTHING to do with the pencil lag!

Notes, Nebo, JW Library. Any app that supports the pencil. None work. Yes, I’ve tried every suggestion including resetting IPad. Pencil connects, just doesn’t work. This literally right after upgrading to 11.0.3.

Have you checked the tip of your Apple Pencil to make sure it is securely attached?

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

How about in Settings app, under Reset, Reset ALL Settings?

Try going to Settings/general/accessibility/zoom and turning off all zoom settings

If you use zoom settings a lot this is still a problem, even though turning zoom off solves the apple pencil problems.

Until Apple fixes the problem, I suggest turning on the accessibility shortcut feature.

1. Go to Settings/general/accessibility/Accessibility Shortcut

2. Check the Zoom feature

Then, when you want to turn zoom on from within other apps or from the home screen, just triple click the home button. Now, the zoom feature stays on. So, if you triple tap the screen, it zooms in and out like before. And, if you go back to settings, you will see that the zoom feature is turned on. Because of this, your apple pencil will begin to have problems again. However, if you want to turn the feature off while using the pencil, you can quickly do so by triple tapping the home button again. So, if you use the pencil a lot, leave the zoom off and triple tap the home button when you need it. On the other hand, if you use the zoom a lot and the pencil only occasionally, leave the zoom feature on, and triple tap home to temporarily shut it off only when you want to use the pencil.

Yes, I saw all those suggestions and tried them all. New tip, reset my IPad, zoom was never on, but turned it on/off....Nothing, nada, the pencil simply stopped working. I refuse to think its the pencil, as it was working just before the update. As someone else has already said, its a software issue. Apple needs to resolve it, and fast.

Yesterday an update for the Concepts app has been released, and they are claiming they’ve found workaround for iOS 11 pencil lag. Since I’ve updated, the lag is gone completely, not only in Concepts but in other apps (including notes) too! Give it a shot, the app is free.

This was still on IOS 11.0.3.

Since I never had this issue on iOS 11 on my 1st gen iPad Pro, the only way for you to find out is to install this recent update on your iPad Pro and see if the issue is fixed or not.

Not every iPad Pro and Apple Pencil user had this issue.

You’re already on the iOS 11 update cycle.

Apple will not always list every single change or bug fix they make in an iOS update release.

iOS 11.1 is a major point update!

9.7 and 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro users, here in these forums, have, already, reported performance improvements with this latest iOS 11.1 release.

You can either keep waiting to update and see if other Apple iPad Pro and Pencil users report whether the Apple Pencil lag has been fixed or lessened with this release or jump right in to find out for yourself.
