This used to work with my ipad. after installing iOS 11, video no longer plays on the TV.
I see the ipad home screen and video selections on the TV, but when I select a video to watch, the video still plays on the ipad, but nothing on the TV. Only the header and footers will appear and sound, but no video. please fix ASAP!

Find out what to do when you have the following issues.
If you see video but can't hear audio
Make sure that you're using a Digital AV adapter (which has an HDMI port). If you're using a VGA adapter, it doesn't carry audio signals. To hear audio with a VGA adapter, you need to connect to the headset jack on your TV, monitor, projector, or stereo.
If an app doesn't display video or play audio
The app might not be compatible with your adapter. Check compatibility on the app's info page in the App Store or contact the developer.
If an alert says that an HDCP-compatible device is required
Your content might not be compatible with your adapter. Movies, TV shows, and certain streaming video apps require High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). If you try to play these movies, shows, and streaming videos using a non-HDCP digital connection—like the Apple VGA Adapter—an alert will ask for an HDCP-compatible device.
If you need help with other issues
- Disconnect and reconnect your adapter from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and from your TV, monitor, or projector.
- Make sure that your VGA or HDMI cable works, since the issue could be with the cable.
- Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters. Accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signals to different video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) aren't compatible.
- Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.

I am experiencing exactly the same behavior. Amazon Prime Video works over HDMI with the Apple lightning AV adapter and Netflix does not. While it appears to be related to the IOS 11 upgrade, expect this is something Netflix can address. Updated Netflix app yesterday and results are unchanged.
I am having the exact same issue mentioned here and with all posts below.
There is 1 exception. I can stream Netflix using the Digital AV adapter cable to HDMI, however any downloaded content from Netflix will not play on the TV. That is when I get the sound from the TV but the video is only on my Apple device. Also there are a lot of Ipad users here and I just wanted to let you all know that the same issue is there for iphone (6S plus).
Amazon video has no issues whatsoever...streaming, or downloaded content. Amazon is the best by far!!!!!
Showtime anytime gives you a screen saying that output to other devices is not supported. This is for streaming or downloads
Cannot speak for HBO Go but HBO Now streams perfectly (however they do not allow you to download content at all)
This is a classic example of companies being “Too big to fail”. Bureaucracy has caused this issue. I was told by Netflix that it was an anti-piracy “feature”. My response was that, as a law-abiding citizen, am quite disappointed with Netflix and Apple. This will provide more impetus to switch to Android and other video providers like Amazon and Youtube Downloads.

there is a corrupt setting somewhere deep down inside your device
use DFU Mode erase/restore and your adapter will work again.

My case is similar but worse. After upgrading to iOS 11 both my iPhone 7 and iPad Air do not display anything on TV. The screen is black on TV. However, when I use iPhone 5S that still has iOS 10 everything is fine and I see the phone screen on TV. So it looks like a iOS issue.
Please help me to solve this
Two things:
1. Update to 11.2.2 and latest Netflix App
2. Sound cuts out.
After four months of blank video, the video now works fine on my iPad Pro 12.9 G2 but occasionally the audio cuts out.
I would like to discuss this with the manager of quality assurance for Apple and Netflix.
