Activity Tracking high intensity training on S3 Watch

Hi there!

Have this evening used my watch on a fitness session. As it’s interval training but we cover some ground during it, I thought using the HIT option in the Activity would be most appropriate. However on completion, this has only tracked average heart rate, time and calorie details.

Is there a way for that option to also include ground covered such as steps and distance? Map would be useful too. Or is it similar to Fitbit and only runs will cover that data?

Finally, on both running and HIT, no heart rate data is available, yet there is a recorded average. Any ideas why the graph isn’t showing any data and the following error displaying?

Hi

It is not possible to change the metrics that are recorded for HIIT workouts via the Workout app. Choosing Other as the activity type instead would also not record either distance or a route map. Choosing any other main activity type would result in inaccurate estimations of results, as tailored calorie calculations are used.

If you would like to submit a feature request to Apple in respect of HIIT metrics, then you can do so here:

Feedback - Apple Watch - Apple

Apple advises that the irregular nature of some activities recorded during HIIT workouts might prevent heart rate from being measured. It may help to check that you are wearing your Apple Watch sufficiently snugly (but not too tightly) on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests tightening your Apple Watch band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards:

If you are unable to achieve consistent heart rate readings using the built-in sensor, then Apple suggests that you consider pairing a compatible Bluetooth chest strap heart rate monitor to your Apple Watch instead:
